REVIEW: BARCELONA 6 – DEPOR LADIES 1 (PRIMERA)

25 Nov 2019
Big defeat that marks the big differences at Liga Iberdrola. The Ladies only created danger at the end of the game, but will keep the third position despite losing their last two games.

BEFORE THE GAME
The ladies were back in action after a week of international break plus one week of strike. There was concern as the mumps hit the club during the week. In the end only María Méndez and Laura were out of the game for this reason. Coach Manu Sánchez allowed the debut as a starter of captain Miriam Ríos and Maya Yamamoto. The surprise was to see Patri López as a starter in the place of Athenea del Castillo.

THE MATCH
If tis game showed something is that there are big differences between Atlético Madrid, FC Barcelona and the rest of the competition at Liga Iberdrola. The Ladies were a toy in the hands of a more experienced team that scored six goals at will. The team only created real danger at the end of the meeting with the outcome already settled.

Deportivo suffered a lot since the start, the Ladies weren’t reaching midfield territory and were under the pressure of the local team. The game started with a shot of Kheira Hamraoui that missed the target (3’), then Misa made the first save of the day against the attempt of Graham Hansen (9’).

At minute 15, Misa had to make a new save against the strong shot of Kheira Hamraoui. And the Ladies were able to pass midfield territory until minute 18, it was a play that ended with a shot of Iris that missed the target.

And the first goal didn’t last to arrive, Graham Hansen made a great play on the right, he dribbled three rivals, entered the area and scored through a drilling and crossed shot. The goal didn’t change the script, because FC Barcelona were dominating the actions and Graham Hansen were close to score again in a direct free-kick that passed close to the far post (26’).

And the second goal arrived, again thanks to Graham Hansen, who made a new run that broke the defence and then she assisted Jenni Hermoso, who scored from close range. And the third goal arrived before the break. Alexia drilled a pass that left Mariona Caldentey alone against Misa, and the attacker scored with a drilling shot. The fourth goal could have arrived before the pause, but the strong shot of Alexia Putellas hit the crossbar (42’).

The second half started with two new goals for FC Barcelona, and both for Graham Hansen. Seconds after the kick-off, the Norwegian attacker collected a cross from Alexia Putellas to push the ball in from close range, and one minute later she completed her hat-trick after recovering a loose ball inside the area.

The sixth goal arrived after a counterattack ended by Aitana Bonmatí. Then Manu Sánchez made three changes. Alba Merino, Kika and Michelle Romero replaced Nuria Rábano, Maya Yamamoto and Patri López.
.
FC Barcelona continued dominating, Depor Ladies never felt comfortable on the pitch and the Catalans had chances to score a seventh goal,  like the crossed shot of substitute Asisat Ashoala that was cleared by Miriam (67’).

And Depor Ladies showed some reaction for the final twenty minutes as the outcome was settled. The first shot on target for the Galicians came until minute 70, Kika found the ball after a throw-in, but her effort was blocked by local goalie Sandra Paños.

Asisat Ashoala was close to score at minute 76, she stole the ball at the edge of the area, but Misa made the save. Érika Sâmia was the last substitution as she entered for Villegas. Peke had the next chance for Depor Ladies in the game, he found the ball at the left side of the area and his strong shot was deflected by Sandra Pañoa (83’).

And Depor Ladies found the goal at the end of the meeting, Tere Abelleira collected the ball outside the area and she scored through a strong shot, only one minute later the same Tere was about to score the second in the same way, but this time Sandra Paños cleared the ball over the crossbar. The Ladies will remain third despite the heavy loss.
