No big changes at the top in a matchday that lacked goals. Racing Santander re-entered the relegation zone and Depor remain winless.

It was a matchday with a few goals, only 21 goals were scored on matchday 18, it’s the third worst on the season only behind matchday 03 (20) and matchday 07 (17). There were three goalless draws and the 28% of the goals in the matchday were saw in one single game.

And that game was the 3-3 draw between Real Zaragoza and Girona FC, result that allows both teams to stay in the promotion zone. Actually, there wasn’t any change among the first six places at the standings. And the biggest novelty was to see Cádiz CF losing for the third opportunity on the season, they lost 1-0 at CF Fuenlabrada, side that confirmed their candidacy to promotion and their label of surprise of the season.

UD Almeria and SD Huesca clinched important victories on the road, the Andalusians defeated CD Tenerife (1-3) and the Aragonians did the same at AD Alcorcón (0-2). Elche CF jumped into the seventh spot after dispatching Racing Santander (2-0), the Valencians have added 11 of the last 15 points in dispute. CD

Meanwhile, Numancia wasted the opportunity to enter into the promotion zone after a goalless draw hosting Málaga CF. Neither Albacete Balompié seized the chance as they only got a point visiting SD Ponferradina (1-1).

The situation at the top of the standings:

place team points GF GA
1 Cádiz 39 27 15
2 Almería 32 28 16

5 Girona 28 25 21
6 Zaragoza 27 25 21
7 Elche 27 24 20
8 Numancia 26 19 16

The big winner in the race for salvation was Real Oviedo, the Asturians beat Rayo Vallecano (2-1) and left the drop zone. CD Tenerife is also out of relegation, but only by a point. Aritz López Garai was fired on last week and Sesé Rivero was the interim coach for the game with UD Almería, but after the defeat the boar decided to side Rubén Baraja.

Racing Santander is back in the hole after their defeat at Elche CF, while Extremadura is penultimate after losing at home against UD Las Palmas (0-1). Depor extended their negative streak to 17 games without winning after a goalless draw visiting CD Lugo. Finally, CD Mirandés and Sporting Gijón remain out of problems after the third goalless draw on the matchday.

The situation at the bottom of the standings:

place team points GF GA
18 Oviedo 18 22 28
19 Málaga 17 14 18
20 Racing 16 20 23
