REVIEW: MADRID CFF 2 – DEPOR LADIES 2 (PRIMERA)

16 Dec 2019
Depor Ladies came back in the score twice to rescue a point in Madrid. The Ladies played a good game, but were surprised at the start of both halves.

BEFORE THE GAME
Coach Manu Sánchez had the casualties of Miriam Rios, Patri Díaz and Silvia Mérida for injury reasons. There were two changes at the starting lineup with Nuria Rábano returning to the left side in defense and Athenea del Castillo was starting in attack.

THE MATCH
It was a good game by Depor Ladies. They had the ball the major part of the time, but lacked solidity at the start of both halves and had to come from behind after allowing goals within the first minutes in each half.

The game started with a goal from Madrid CFF. Silvia Rubio found the ball at the box and scored past Esther Sullastres. It was the second arrival for the locals, side that had a strong start. But the game changed after the goal, because Depor Ladies started to have the ball, though without having clear opportunities.

The Galicians tried to respond and Nuria and Gaby attempted shots that were blocked (9’).
Athenea del Castillo and Gaby were leading the attacks, but the opportunities weren’t arriving. The first big chance was a shot of Gaby that passed close to the far post (19’).

And Depor Ladies were going to find the equalizer before the break. After twenty minutes insisting, but without ending the plays, Gaby found a cross from the left and she headed the ball in the middle of a defender and keeper Raquel Poza. It was a deserved reward for the team that had the ball in the first half.

The second half started with a new goal from Madrid CFF, only seconds after the kick-off, Alba Mellado surprised finding a cross from the left crossing Sullastres. Once again, the ladies were against the ropes and the locals were close to score a third goal with a strong shot from Estela Fernández that hit the crossbar (52’).

But the game changed. Depor Ladies reacted after this action and once again they had the ball possession; the opportunities weren’t arriving, but the visiting side was surrounding the local area and had three consecutive corners starting at minute 56.

The firs big chance for Depor Ladies in this half came at minute 60, Peke was unable to capitalize a pass from Tere Abelleira, and three minutes later the same player was going to find the equalizer. This time the goal came after an assist from Gaby and she didn’t miss from close range.

The first substitution was the entry of Noelia Villegas for Laura Vázquez, a defensive change trying to fix some mismatches containing the local counterattack, then Maya Yamamoto refreshed the attack entering for Alba Merino.

The game lacked opportunities within the final fifteen minutes. Manu Sánchez made a third change and Michelle Romero replaced Athenea del Castillo. The last opportunity in the game was a header of Gaby that went out (89’).
