New year, same fight. Fernando Vázquez re-debuts with a desperate Deportivo that need the points at the start of the second round.

Deportivo return into action this weekend, it’s the start of the second round and the start of the new year with Fernando Vázquez re-debuting with the team and having the same need of points in order to turn back the current situation. And it will be a particular month for how the Copa del Rey has been scheduled.

The first league game in the year is the visit to CD Numancia, an in-form team that’s currently sixth at the standings. They are coming from an impressive 2-4 win at Cádiz CF, which was the first home defeat of the current leaders.

Then there’s a little break in la liga as the second round of Copa del Rey is played during a weekend. The rival is Unionistas de Salamanca CF, team that’s currently in relegation at Segunda B after only winning 5 of 18 matches in the competition, though they are in a good moment after winning their last three official meetings.

At the middle of the month, Depor will have to play two league games in a frame of three days. The good thing is that both will take place at the Riazor. The first is a direct meeting against another rival trying to survive at Segunda: Racing Santander.
