First game in 2020 for Deportivo, the Galicians are also witnessing the debut of Fernando Vázquez though using the same players. CD Numancia want to reaffirm their position in promotion places.

Kick-off: 12h00 CET (Los Pajaritos)

Deportivo are searching for three straight wins in official games, something that only happened once last season and it was during the playoffs, at the time the Galicians chained four straight wins until suffering the disastrous defeat at RCD Mallorca that cost the promotion.

And it won’t be an easy task as CD Numancia is the fourth best local team in the league with 21 points added in 10 matches played at Los Pajaritos, mark only below SD Huesca (25), Cádiz CF (23) and Girona FC (23). Their only home defeats were against AD Alcorcón (0-1) and Real Zaragoza (0-1).

This is the eighth visit of Deportivo to Los Pajaritos playing in a league competition; the Galicians won four of the previous seven games played there, including last season’s game with goals scored by Borja Valle and Somma (1-2).

The third coach of Deportivo on the season is debuting in the first game of 2020. Fernando Vázquez is bringing more hope than solutions, because a part of the fans are happy with his return, but the Galician coach is having the same resources than Luis César, at least for this game. The only signing made so far, Emre Çolak, is not fit to play and will have to wait for the match in Copa del Rey.

The new coach tested during the week a 4-4-2 figure with Mujaid Sadick returning to the bench and with Víctor Mollejo acting as second striker behind Koné, but the Ivorian attacker last-minute casualty and now Aketxe will be the one performing behind Mollejo.

Team news: Koné didn’t train on Saturday due to a knock, so the Ivorian attacker is joining Gaku Shibasaki and David Simón at the injury room. Also, Vicente Gómez is suspended. Vázquez had eighteen men available and decided to pick Fabril’s Mujaid, so Beto da Silva was left out.

Man to watch: Víctor Mollejo. The young attacker is among the best players in a poor season of Deportivo, and now he will have the chance to play as a centre forward for the first time. He already scored three goals and the switch can be important for Depor’s aspirations.

Picked players: Picked players: (18) Dani Giménez, Koke Vegas (goalkeepers); Eneko Bóveda, Michelle Somma, Javi Montero, Vassilios Lampropoulos, Mujaid Sadick, Luiz Ruiz, Salva Ruiz (defenders); Álex Bergantiños, Peru Nolaskoain, Borja Galán, Saša Jovanovic, Ager Aketxe, Víctor Mollejo (midfielders); Samuele Longo, Borja Valle & Christian Santos (attackers)

Predicted lineup: (4-4-2) Dani Giménez – Bóveda, Lampropoulos, Somma, Salva Ruiz – Borja Galán, Nolaskoain, Álex Bergantiños, Borja Valle – Aketxe, Mollejo.
CD Numancia have passed from been fighting to survive at the start of 2019 to play the first game in 2020 as the sixth place at the standings. The club’s officials are happy with coach Luis Carrión and it was already mentioned a possible contract extension. The only concern right is the problems with the centre-backs, the injuries and the possible exit of Carlos Gutiérrez during the winter window are altering the balance of a team that has been solid so far.

Team news: The normal starters at the centre of the defence are out of the game, Alberto Escassi is out injured (groin), while Carlos Gutiérrez is about to be transferred. But the substitutes have made a good job, Derik Osede and Adrián Castellano played against Cádiz CF in the last matchday of 2019 and the team won, Osede even scored a goal.

Man to watch: Playmaker Curro Sánchez. This 24-year-old player spent his career at Sevilla CF academy teams, he ended contract on last summer and was signed by CD Numancia, and now he is one of the two top-scorers at the team with six goals in favour, including a brace in the last 2-4 win at Cádiz CF.

Picked players: Roster to be released on Sunday

Predicted lineup: (4-2-3-1) Dani Barrio – Iván Calero, Derik Osede, Adrián Castellano, Héctor – Vidorreta, Luis Gustavo – Curro, Marc Mateu, Moha – Higinio Marin.
