REVIEW: TENERIFE 5 – DEPOR LADIES 3 (PRIMERA)

27 Jan 2020
Crazy second half that turned to be expensive for Depor Ladies. Fifth defeat on the season, but the gals remain fourth at the standings.

BEFORE THE GAME
Coach Manu Sánchez had the casualty of Michelle Romero for injury reasons. There were changes at the starting lineup as María Isabel Rodríguez ‘Misa0 returned to the goal, while Tere Abelleira and Laura Vázquez were starters.

THE MATCH
The locals were more intense within the first minutes. Martín-Prieto had two chances to score in frame of two minutes that were saved by Misa (9’ & 11’). Then the visiting started to settle, though without creating any chance.

And at the middle of the half, UDG Tenerife found the first goal in the game. Pisco released a cross that Serbian attacker Allegra Polijak headed before the pressure from Misa. There was no reaction from Depor Ladies and the locals continued to push.

But the Galicians were going to find the equalizer, and it was thanks to Athenea del Castillo, who made a great play on the left, dribbling a rival and releasing a precise cross that Maya Yamamoto sent into the back of the net.

In the next play the locals could have scored the second goal, Silvia Doblado released a rocket that hit the crossbar and then bounced at the goal line (33’). Then the game changed, because Depor Ladies started to dominate the actions. The first half ended with Iris missing the target after a combination between Peke and Gaby (39’).

The second part started like the first, with the locals pressing and with Martín-Prieto having a great chance, this time in a one-on-one action against Misa that was saved by the keeper (46’). But Depor Ladies were also seeking for the victory and Maya Yamamoto had the first shot on target in this half with an attempt saved by local goalie Aline Reis (47’).

But then came a fatidic frame for Depor Ladies in which the team conceded twice. First a counterattack ended in a confusing play in which Noelia Villegas scored an own goal, then María José Pérez beat the offside trap to end scoring with the heel. In the middle of both goals Nuria Rábano had replaced Laura.

The bleeding continued and UDG Tenerife was going to find a fourth goal, and again it was María José, this time finding the ball inside the area after a lateral free-kick action. The game became crazy as the goals were arriving after each attack.

Depor Ladies found the second after a cross from Tere Abelleira was headed in by María Méndez, and in the next attack María José scored her hat-trick, this time with a downward header.

Alba Merino replaced Maya Yamamoto and Kika did the same with Tere Abelleira. The rain of goals was over, but the occasions were still arriving. At minute 74, Aline saved an attempt of Alba Merino (74’), and in the next play Misa blocked an attempt from substitute Ana González.

And then Depor Ladies found the third goal, and it was Kika, who scored with a wonderful volley after been assisted by Cris. Carolina Arbeláez was the last substitution as she replaced Athenea. The visiting side pressed within the final ten minutes, but there were no more goals.
