First home defeat for Depor Ladies, the team never knew how to counteract the fast attacks from Athletic and also lost the fourth place with the Basques.

Coach Manu Sánchez lost goalkeeper María Isabel Rodríguez ‘Misa’ for injury reasons, so Jessica Carro from the B squad was picked in order to be on the bench. At the same time, Michelle Romero was back. The coach made changes after the defeat with UDG Tenerife with Alba Merino and Nuria Rábano returning into the starting formation.

First home defeat for Depor Ladies. The team was unable to deal with the counterattack from Athletic and not only lost the game, but also the fourth place, the spot is now for the Basques.

The game couldn’t start worse for Depor Ladies, because the visiting side claimed the lead after only fifteen seconds. Ane Azkona scored after the kick-off collecting a long pass from Oroz. The locals felt the hit and the second goal was close to arrive with a short-range shot of María Díaz that was saved by Sullastres (6’).

Then the locals regained control of the actions and the opportunities started to arrive. At minute 13, a corner-kick ended hitting the hand of a defender, but no penalty was whistled. Three minutes later Alba Merino met the crossbar with a strong shot and after Peke stole the ball at the edge of the area.

Depor Ladies ended the first half having problems to create scoring opportunities and dealing with the counterattack from the visiting team. At minute 31, substitute Lucia García could have scored the second for Athletic, but her crossed shot just passed close to the post. Four minutes later she appeared again and this time Sullastres made the save.

Depor Ladies started the second half having the same problems to create scoring opportunities.  A shot without consequences by Tere Abelleira was the first attempt from the Galicians (53’). Kika replaced Alba Merino as Manu Sánchez was trying to have more presence at midfield.

But the ladies never found the needed depth. They continued to have problems to create scoring opportunities and Athletic were still looking dangerous in the counterattack, Erika Vázquez could have scored the second goal in one of these actions, but Sullastres arrived first (73’).

And the second goal arrived after all, and it was in a counterattack. Iris lost the ball in offensive positions, and from there a long pass of Oroz to Lucia García allowed the attacker to chip the ball past Sullastres.

The substitutions arrived late, the second came with the game defined and it was Maya Yamamoto replacing Tere Abeleira. Later the team switched to a 3-5-2 formation with the entry of Michelle Romero for Noelia Villegas, but the team was unable to create scoring chances.  Actually, the third goal could have arrived in the added time, but Sullastres saved the shot from Erika Vázquez (90+1’).
