Sabin Merino will miss Sunday’s game, but Fernando Vázquez has recovered Christian Santos and David Simón. Dani Giménez is having muscle issues.

Deportivo have extended their winning streak to six games and the debate continues about the real aspirations of the team. But in order to continue dreaming with the promotion, first it must get something positive from the visit to AD Alcorcón (Sunday, 12h00 CET).

The winter window is finally closed and coach Fernando Vázquez can find some stability in a squad that had novelties in each one of the last five games. There is more good news than bad news as the team recovers the injured players.

But what’s on the spotlight is the injury of Sabin Merino. The Basque striker is the symbol of the reaction after scoring in his four games with the team, but in the past meeting with UD Las Palmas, he had to be replaced and the scans detected a muscle injury on the right thigh. He will miss Sunday’s game.

Meanwhile, Javi Montero was also replaced in that game due to a knock, but he was already fine by Tuesday and Vázquez could continue using the system with five defenders. Other two players have surpassed their injuries: David Simón and Christian Santos.

Simón is finally available after missing the last three months due to groin surgery. He received the medical okay on this week, though he is missing match fitness. In the case of Venezuelan Santos, he missed all the games in January due to an ankle sprain and is now available.

Therefore Salva Ruiz is the only player that remain out injured together with Sabin Merino. The left-back has now missed the last two games after suffering a hamstring injury on his left leg during the game with Cádiz CF. He joined the work with the group on Friday, but without having the medical okay.

The two signings made on deadline day, Keko Gontán and Aleksandar Jovanović, joined the team this week. Jovanović even have the chance to be a starter due to the problems that Dani Giménez is dragging.

The goalkeeper has been dealing with an adductor muscle injury, he hasn’t been training normally for two weeks, and in the game with UD Las Palmas, he wasn’t kicking the ball during the goal-kicks. His condition is assessed week by week and for now he’s available.

At AD Alcorcón, the Madrilenians are trying to find some stability that could lead them to the promotion places. They have spent seven games without losing, but only one of those results was a victory. Actually, they have only won one of his last eleven official meetings. The main concern is that they have lost strength playing at Santo Domingo after only winning once there within the last two months.

Coach Fran Fernández has three casualties for injury reasons: striker Jack Harper, plus defenders Samu Casado and Carlos Bellvis. At the same time, he will miss right-back Laure. The ex.-captain of Deportivo is suspended after been sent off with two yellow cards in the visit to Racing Santander.
