MATCHDAY 27: AWAY SUCCESS

12 Feb 2020
Good matchday for the visiting teams, not too many changes at the standings. Cádiz CF put some difference at the top and Deportivo are still winning.

Only two away teams lose on this matchday, which is the lowest number on this season [four away wins, the best mark on the season too]. There was only one change among the first six places and Cádiz CF were finally able to increase their lead at the top after weeks of watching how their big advantage was getting shorter.

The Andalusians won in their visit to UD Las Palmas (1-2) and seized the surprising defeat of UD Almeria hosting relegation-troubled Racing Santander (0-1). To complement the situation, SD Huesca lost with a last-minute goal at Girona FC (1-0), while Real Zaragoza didn’t pass from a goalless draw hosting Fuenlabrada CF.

Cádiz CF have now a six-point lead over the second place. The only change among the first six places was to see Girona FC reaching the fifth position. Elche CF were pulled to the sixth place, but they must feel satisfied in keeping a spot among the promotion zone after rescuing a point in the visit to CD Lugo (2-2). The Valencians were losing 2-0 by minute 84 and a late brace for Nino rescued the result for them.

CD Numancia lost the opportunity to enter the promotion zone after a last-minute goal at Málaga CF (2-1). Another team that remains at the border of the promotion zone is CD Mirandés, in this matchday they were only able to add a point in the visit to Sporting Gijón (2-2).

The situation at the top of the standings:

place team points GF GA
1 Cádiz 52 38 25
2 Almeria 46 44 27
3 Zaragoza 44 36 25
4 Huesca 43 32 26
5 Girona 41 34 31
6 Elche 40 35 28
7 Fuenlabrada 38 29 26
8 Numancia 37 32 28

Deportivo extended their winning streak to seven games, in this opportunity they had to wait until the last second in order to defeat AD Alcorcón (0-1). But the Galicians are only four points above the pit and must remain careful about their aspirations.

CD Tenerife are also in a good moment, they have won four of the last six games and in this opportunity they clinched a huge result defeating direct rival Extremadura UD at their own stadium (2-4). There were no changes among the last places as Albacete Balompié remain without winning. Los Manchegos barely rescued a point hosting SD Ponferradina (1-1) with the equalizer arriving in the added time. Real Oviedo remain out of relegation only by the goal difference rule after adding a point in their visit to Rayo Vallecano (1-1).

The situation at the bottom of the standings:

place team points GF GA

19 Albacete 29 19 32
20 Extremadura 26 24 37
