REVIEW: TACÓN 3 – DEPOR LADIES 4 (LIGA)

02 Mar 2020
Incredible game for Depor Ladies. Things didn’t work for 80 minutes and the team was losing 3-0 by minute 80, but later pulled 4 goals in 10 minutes to win the match.

BEFORE THE GAME
End to the busy calendar of the Ladies. After a month playing twice a week, the team was eliminated on Copa in the extra time against FC Barcelona. And there’s a price to pay as two players got injured in this period. Athenea del Castillo was out with a muscle problem and previously Alba Merino was operated from a shoulder injury. Coach Manu Sánchez also had Laura Vázquez injured and didn’t want to pick anyone from the B squad for this game, so there were only sixteen players on the roster.

THE MATCH
It was expected a tiredness for the busy calendar, and Depor Ladies gave signs of a mental block as it was unable to display its football for 80 minutes, but later the storm came and the gals ended winning the game with four goals scored in a frame of ten minutes.

The first action was a bad clearance of Sullastres that Jakobsson sent out (1’).  Depor Ladies had the ball possession since the start, but CD Tacón were looking more vertical. Depor’s first approximation was a cross from the left that Tere Abelleira collected and her shot was deflected by local goalie Yohana Gómez (5’).

At minute 10, Michelle Romero collected a low cross from the left and his shot was saved by Yohana at the near post. Two minutes later the action was repeated and this time it was Peke and again the local goalie made the save.

CD Tacón had a good chance at minute 17, this after Babett Peter headed a corner and the ball went close to the crossbar. Depor Ladies were having the ball and were finding plenty of room at midfield, but at the same time it was suffering in defence, mainly with the attacks by the left side led by Sofia Jakobsson.

At minute 29, one of these actions ended with a strong shot of Jessica Martínez that was saved by Sullastres. At minute 38, Aurélie Kaci collected the ball in corner-kick and his shot was deflected by Sullatres.

And only two minutes later the French midfielder was going to score the first goal in the game. Jakobsson released a cross from the left and Kaci collected the ball at the edge of the area to end releasing a strong volley past Sullastres. The first half ended with Depor Ladies having the ball, but the gals had big problems at the moment of creating scoring opportunities.

Depor Ladies continued stuck in the second half, the Galicians were having the ball, but later had problems to combine in offensive positions. At the same time, the high pressure from the locals didn’t allow them to feel comfortable in defence.

The first chance to score in the second half came until minute 62. Jakobsson, who was a real nightmare all game long. collected the ball inside the area and his strong shot went into the path of Sullastres (63’). Clearer was the chance at minute 68, again Jakobsson was left alone before Sullastres and the keeper made a great save.

The first big chance for Depor Ladies came at minute 71, Daiane lost the ball at the edge of the area, then Gaby assisted Michelle Romero and the Venezuelan attacker was unable to define facing Yohana in the one-on-one.

Manu Sánchez made the first two changes, Kika and Villegas replaced Arbeláez and Nuria Rábano, and immediately the second goal arrived. It was a corner-kick that Sullatres cleared and Lorena Navarro found the loose ball and scored with a crossed shot.

Maya Yamamoto was the second substitution, she entered for Iris and immediately the third goal arrived. Jakobsson collected the ball at the left and released a volley, the ball hit the ground and Sullatres failed trying to contain the ball.

CD Tacón had made a smart game and deserved the victory, but perhaps not with a big score. But then a radical change occurred as Depor Ladies were going to score four times within the final eight minutes. Everything that wasn’t working in the previous 82 minutes was suddenly fixed.

The reaction started with a goal that came after two rebounds. Peke assisted Maya, and her low attempt entered almost by luck. Only one minute later Michelle Romero found the net for the second goal, it was after a long pass from María Méndez, then the striker ran and scored through a drilling shot.

Suddenly, the equalizer was at reach and it arrived after CD Tacón lost the ball at the edge of the area, Tere drilled a pass that Michelle Romero found inside the area, then she dribbled Yohana to score at will.

And the winner came in the stoppage time, Maya assisted Kika, and the Venezuelan midfielder released an impressive volley into the near post. Miriam Ríos replaced Peke at the last minute and it was hard to believe for CD Tacón as they passed from 3-0 to 3-4 in just eight minutes.
