MATCHDAY 31: TENSION & GOALS

The matchday with more goals in 2020 witnessed how the distance at the top has been reduced to one point. Meanwhile, Depor are back in relegation.

30 goals were scored on matchday 31, it’s the highest number in 2020 and it was a good weekend for the visiting teams as five of them won their matches. The tournament is entering into the final stage and the tension is high as the differences have been reduced at both sides of the standings.

Starting at the top. Cádiz CF could only get a point in their visit to CD Lugo (1-1) and, after the victory of Real Zaragoza at Málaga CF, now the difference between the first and the second place is only one point. UD Almería remain at the third spot after they retuning to winning ways and they did it trashing Deportivo (4-0).

SD Huesca are tied in points with the Andalusians after dispatching CF Fuenlabrada at home (2-0). Girona FC suffered a new disappointment as they could only get a point at home facing Albacete Balompié (1-1). The big winner of the matchday was Elche CF.

The Andalusians beat Rayo Vallecano on the road and they did it coming from behind after the locals were reduced to ten men (2-3), now they have a four-point advantage in the fight for the sixth position. It was also the first defeat in 2020 for the Madrilenians. Real Zaragoza is the only unbeaten team in the new year.

CD Mirandés jumped into the seventh spot after a 1-2 win at AD Alcorcón, it was a suffered game as they were trailing 1-0 by minute 82. Then Sporting Gijón entered the race for promotion with a 4-0 win over UD Las Palmas, the Asturians are now five points under the playoff seats.

Real Oviedo were the big winners in the fight for the permanence. The Asturians beat direct rival Extremadura UD (1-2) and left the pit. With the result, Depor are back in relegation places for the first time in a month. But the differences are minimal as the Galicians are on the pit due to the goal difference rule.

Racing Santander added a refreshing victory at CD Numancia (1-2), they remain at the bottom and are now seven points below salvation. CD Tenerife is also on the run of salvation after dispatching SD Ponferradina at home (1-0).

MATCHDAY 32: BEHIND CLOSED DOORS
All the matches for the next two weeks will be played behind closed doors, this for the crisis with the COVID-19. CD Cádiz face a tough game hosting Rayo Vallecano, while Real Zaragoza have a more accessible meeting as they entertain AD Alcorcón. Deportivo will try to recover the lost feelings as the face Sporting Gijón at the Riazor. There’s also a vital game for the permanence with CD Lugo visiting last-place Racing Santander.

The matchday is completed with other seven games: CD Fuenlabrada Vs. CD Tenerife; Málaga CF Vs. SD Huesca; Real Oviedo Vs. SD Ponferradina; CD Mirandés Vs. CD Numancia; Albacete Balompié Vs. UD Almería; Elche CF Vs. Extremadura UD & UD Las Palmas Vs. Girona FC.
