Almost two months after suspending the training sessions, Depor are back to Abegondo in order to pass medical tests and relaunch the training sessions. For now, the players will be training separately on the pitch.

March 13 was the date of the last training session of Deportivo. The team coached by Fernando Vázquez was preparing the visit of Sporting Gijón, then the COVID-19 crisis abruptly interrupted everything. 55 days later, the players return to the training pitch at Abegondo, but in these first days it will be under special circumstances.

Since Monday, the players passed medical tests, the same ones they have to pass at the beginning of any pre-season. Then, on Wednesday, the players were undergoing the COVID-19 tests. The process lasted four hours (from 2 PM to 6 PM). Every five minutes a player was arriving wearing a mask and gloves. No positive cases have been reported.

And on Friday, the players will finally start to work on the training pitch. In this first phase of the return the players will be alone completing physical exercises on the pitch. A maximum of six players will be on one single pitch and must practice social distancing.  In future phases more men will be allowed to train in the same pitch until it’s possible to have a normal training session with the whole group, but the exact date of these phases is not known yet.

The players will also be forced to be isolated at their homes. In future phases the players will have to live in a hotel until the season is ended. There have bene complaints by the players union by this measure, but the LFP will not change the plan.

Vázquez will have 29 men training with the team. The 24 players of the first team will be joined by five academy players: Mujaid, Iago Gandoy, Valín, Alberto and Juan Rodríguez.  Before suspending the season, there were four players with physical issues, but now only Michele Somma remains sidelined after undergoing a knee surgery.
