TRAINING WEEK

07 Jun 2020
The competition returns on next weekend and the injury cases haven’t affected Deportivo, but Aketxe could miss the game with Sporting, while Mujaid is recovered.

The fourth and final phase of La Liga protocol started on last Monday as the full squads at Primera and Segunda División were allowed to train at the same time and at the same pitch without any restrictions. With the competition returning on midweek (the delayed game Rayo Vallecano Vs. Albacete), the coaching staffs are having at least one week to prepare the tactics for the first game.

Still, there were some restrictions that remain on, mainly the ones related to the work in closed rooms. The full squad cannot work at the same time at the gym (only isolated cases like injured players) and the players cannot use the changing rooms.  On Saturday, Deportivo trained at the Riazor, their first session at the stadium in three months.

The next step was the concentrations as the competitions is restarted. The LFP wanted all the clubs to have their players concentrated in hotels for two months starting on next week, but the Players’ Union opposed to it and in the end it will only be optional.  Deportivo won’t concentrate its players for the restart of the competition, it will only follow the guidelines in the protocol for the away matches.

There’s a sense of relief at Deportivo as the competition returns and the squad hasn’t been affected too much with the injuries. When the week started coach Fernando Vázquez only had the active case of Mujaid Sadick.

The young centre-back missed two weeks of work due to a muscle problem on his right thigh, but by Friday he was already working with the group. But it’s not clear if he will continue to be a starter after missing the half of the “pre-season”.

And there some bad news too despite the low number of injuries. Because Emre Çolak and Ager Aketxe ended the week out of the group due to muscle problems. Aketxe is the most sensitive case as the scans detected a muscle injury on the quadriceps of his right thigh, reason why he could miss the game against Sporting Gijón.
