PREVIEW: TENERIFE - DEPORTIVO (LIGA)

30 Jun 2020
Two teams in good form want to secure the permanence as soon as possible. Depor will be making rotations, which includes the return of Ba.

Referee: Miguel Ángel Ortíz Arias
VAR Official: Jorge Figueroa Vázquez
Kick-off: 19h30 CET (Heliodoro Rodríguez López stadium)

STATISTICS: IN FORM
CD Tenerife is the most in-form team at Segunda División. The Canarians have added 13 points in their last 6 games, and only suffered 2 defeats in the last 14 matchdays, reason why they passed from fighting for the permanence to now lie two points below the playoff zone.

Deportivo are also living a good streak. The Galicians have chained two straight victories and, together with Rayo Vallecano and UD Las Palmas, are the only Segunda teams that haven’t lost after returning from the lockdown.

Depor have suffered in their visits to the Heliodoro Rodríguez López stadium. The Galicians have been unable to claim a victory in their last eight visits. Last season Los Blanquiazules had the lead in two different moments in the game played there, but the final result was 2-2.

DEPORTIVO: TWO MORE WINS
Coach Fernando Vázquez is targeting two more victories in order to secure the permanence, for him the mark of 50 points would be enough for the goal. The game at CD Tenerife arrives only three days after the home meeting against SD Ponferradina, so the coach will continue to make rotations taking in mind the long trip to the Canary Islands. He didn’t test any specific starting eleven, but it’s expected the return of Abdoulaye Ba.

Team news: Peru Nolaskoain and Keko Gontán didn’t recover in time for the game and remain at the injury room together with Michele Somma. It’s the same roster of the game against SD Ponferradina with the novelties that Javi Montero is suspended, while Gaku Shibasaki returns after his expulsion.

Man to watch: Centre-back Abdoulaye Ba. The Senegalese defender had a terrible game against Real Oviedo and hasn’t played since then, but now he will have a new opportunity as Javi Montero is suspended. Vázquez will give him a new chance and it’s a tough challenge as Depor face the most in-form team in the league.

Picked players: (23) Dani Giménez, Aleksandar Jovanović (goalkeepers); Eneko Bóveda, David Simón, Mujaid Sadick, Abdoulaye Ba, Luis Ruiz, Salva Ruiz, Jorge Valín (defenders); Álex Bergantiños, Vicente Gómez, Uche Agbo, Gaku Shibasaki, Ager Aketxe, Iago Gandoy, Víctor Mollejo, Emre Çolak, Hugo Vallejo (midfielders); Mamadou Koné, Borja Valle, Christian Santos, Claudio Beauvue & Sabin Merino (attackers)

Predicted lineup: (5-3-2) Dani Giménez – Bóveda, Mujaid, Álex Bergantiños, Ba, Salva Ruiz – Uche Agbo, Gaku, Aketxe – Borja Valle, Sabin Merino.

TENERIFE: THE EFFECT OF RUBEN BARAJA
CD Tenerife is one of several Segunda clubs that had three coaches on this season, and like the case of Deportivo, things have changed dramatically with the last one, Rubén Baraja. The ex-Valencia man has only lost 4 of his 18 games with the team and converted the Canarian outfit into a very solid team after been a disaster at the end of 2019, an example the solid presentation in the 0-2 win in midweek visiting current leaders Cádiz CF (0-2).

Team news: Midfielder Borja Lasso (fibula fracture) and left-back defender Robert Mazán (thigh) are the players out for injury reasons. Contrary to other clubs, Baraja has barely made rotations since the lockdown, and he could be tempted to make some for this game as his team only rested three days, but it’s expected that only Joselu will enter the formation after been a substitute against Cádiz CF.

Man to watch: Striker Dani Gómez. The loanee from Real Madrid is the most in-form player at the team. He is now the top-scorer of CD Tenerife, and 3 of his 9 goals came in his last two presentations, including a brace against Cádiz CF.

Picked players: (23) Adrián Ortolá, Dani Hernández (goalkeepers);  Luis Pérez, Álex Muñoz, Alberto Jiménez, Carlos Ruiz, Lluis López, Isma López, Shaquell Moore, Nikola Šipčić, Daniel Lasure (defenders); Iker Undabarrena, Luis Milla, Javi Muñoz, Suso Santana, Álex Bermejo, Nahuel Leiva, Aitor Sanz, Javi Alonso (midfielders); Dani Gómez, Joselu Moreno, Ramón Miérez & Jorge Padilla (attackers).

Predicted lineup: (4-4-2) Ortolá – Luis Pérez, Lluis López, Šipčić, Álex Muñoz – Shaq Moore, Luis Milla, Aitor Sanz, Lasure – Joselu, Dani Gómez.
