The six Galician clubs will be in the same subgroup of Segunda B. The season 2020/21 will begin on October 18.

The meeting of the Spanish Federation (RFEF) held on Monday has settled the composition of the groups and the kick-off date of the competitions. Segunda B, Tercera and Liga Iberdrola will begin on October 18. The kick-off in the female leagues could be advanced to October 4, but it will depend on an agreement between the clubs. The first round at Segunda B should end on January 22.

The whole season 2020/21 at Segunda B will be a novelty, there are 102 clubs in the league and it was necessary to create five groups and two subgroups in each group, the division of the clubs was made attending to geographical aspects.  The RFEF discussed six different ways to compose the subgroups, in the end the criterion that prevailed was to put the clubs of the same community in the same subgroup, and the second criterion was to put the clubs from the same province in the same subgroup.

For this reason, Deportivo was put in the same group with the other five Galician clubs at Segunda B, and the other four spots were for clubs from Castile & Leon, more precisely the four clubs from the province of Salamanca. Each subgroup will complete 18 matchdays with each team facing the 9 rivals in a two-round tournament.

This will be the first stage of the season 2020/21, the RFEF didn’t reveal what will happen next, the speculation is that the first three places will qualify for the promotion playoff to Segunda A. Neither the RFEF released the composition of the calendar, which should be announced on September 14, day of the next meeting at the RFEF as the government must approve first the calendar and the COVID-19 protocols.

Thus Deportivo will play in subgroup I of group I and will face these nine rivals: Coruxo FC, Pontevedra CF, Racing Ferrol, Celta B, SD Compostela, CD Guijuelo, Zamora CF, Salamanca CF & Unionistas de Salamanca.
