Deportivo found out that it will face the other five Galicians clubs in the league plus the four from Salamanca. The goal is to end among the top three places.

The Spanish Federation (RFEF) announced on Monday the composition of the groups for Segunda División B. It will be a unique campaign as Spanish football is facing a big adjustment, because the RFEF is creating a whole new third tier.

The 102 clubs in the division are divided in five groups, and each group will have two subgroups. This complex system with the groups is made in order to reduce the trips of the club as the whole world is in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic.

It is also made to reduce the number of games, because the first round will only have 18 matchdays, and with the possibility of having delays, it’s uncertain if a long league could end before May, or even if it can end prematurely if the infections raise.

That’s why the second round hasn’t been decided yet, because the RFEF wants to see the evolution of the pandemic and also needs more time in order to decide what to do in case of ending the season 2020/21 prematurely.

La Voz de Galicia reported that there’s an idea for the second round and it involves to unite the first three places of each subgroup, which means the first three places of subgroup 1 and 2 that conform group 1. These six clubs will secure a place in the new Primera RFEF 2021/22 and will aspire to the promotion to Segunda. The idea is to only play six games in this round. Each team will face the three teams of the other subgroup, but not the ones of their same zone as these results will be granted as the same of the first round. This system will be confirmed in a future meeting to be held on September 7.

Then the third round will come out from the three first places of each group, there will also be a spot for the best 4th places among the five groups in the league. The playoff would have 16 teams that will dispute the four promotion tickets in a format of a bubble with the teams concentrated in one city.

All this mess is crated in order to have three new leagues for the campaign 2021/22. The third tier will be called Primera RFEF and will have 40 clubs (two groups of 20 clubs). Segunda RFEF will have 96 clubs (6 groups with 16 clubs), and Tercera RFEF, league that will have between 304 and 380 clubs.

Deportivo will face these nine rivals in the first round: Coruxo FC, Pontevedra CF, Racing Ferrol, Celta B, SD Compostela, CD Guijuelo, Zamora CF, Salamanca CF & Unionistas de Salamanca. The level of the rivals cannot be despised.

Pontevedra CF have always formed teams with the goal of promotion, and for the new season they have recovered Charles from SD Ponferradina. Racing Ferrol and SD Compostela are also clubs with the goal of fighting for the promotion, while the four clubs from Salamanca are solid, starting with Salamanca CF, clubs that plays at El Helmántico (17 spectators). It’s more interesting to realize that main candidates at subgroup 2: Burgos CF, Cultural Leonesa and recently demoted CD Numancia. Three clubs also targeting the promotion.
