FABRIL: DETAILS FOR THE NEW SEASON

03 Sep 2020
Fabril will only face Galician teams during the season 2020/21. And 3 of the 24 Galician clubs in the division will be promoted to the fourth tier (Segunda RFEF).

As part of the major facelift arranged by the Spanish Federation (RFEF) for the upcoming future, the Tercera División will live an atypical season during the course 2020/21. First to all, the number of participants at the Galician group has been increased from 20 to 24.

In order to avoid problems to the clubs with the trips, and as Spain and the rest of the world will continue to live under the circumstances of the pandemic, the distance that the teams have to make will be reduced to the maximum extent. For this each group of Tercera División has been divided in two subgroups (North and South) and the playoff will only be played between clubs from the same group, which means that the Galician clubs will only face rivals from the same community.

Thus, the Galician group will be divided in two groups of 11 clubs, the first round will have 20 matchdays in a two-round system. Fabril will play in the North subgroup together with the other teams from the provinces of A Coruña and Lugo: Silva SD, UD Paiosaco, Bergantiños FC, SD Fisterra, Vista Alegre Estudiantil, CSD Arzúa, CD As Pontes, UD Somozas, Viveiro CF, Racing Villalbés  & Polvorín FC (Lugo B).

The three first places of both groups will qualify for the second round, the details of this round haven’t been defined, but it should be similar to the system to be used at Segunda B. The first two places in this round will be directly promoted to the upper division, which o next season will be the fourth tier in Spain (Segunda RFEF).

The remaining four clubs will be united with two clubs coming from a second round of the team ending between the 4th and 7th place of the first round, and these six teams will take part of a playoff that will define the third promoted club.

At the same time there will be eight demotions to the Preferente league, this since the goal of the RFEF is to pass from 24 to 16 clubs for the season 2022/23. The kick-off of the first round will take place on October 18.
