Defeat in the first game of the season. Depor Ladies played a solid second half and could have taken the lead, but a series of distractions cost the game.

The coach presented a 4-3-3 lineup. Stephannie Blanco and Lady Andrade were the two new signings that were starters. Athenea del Castillo, Gaby García and Ainize Barea ‘Peke’ composed the trident in attack.

It wasn’t a brilliant match, players that should mark the difference like Gaby and Athenea had a discrete performance, but Depor Ladies deserved more after meeting the woodwork twice and after completing a solid second part.

Athletic Club controlled the game within the first minutes, the first chance to score was a shot of María Díaz that was blocked by Esther Sullastres (6’). The same María Díaz had the next opportunity heading a cross from the right and the ball went wide (12’).

Depor Ladies tried to react after the local goal and had more presence in attack, but without creating a clear chance. Athletic started to find the cracks at the visiting defence and their counterattacks were dangerous, like the one that Eunate sent out after Paula Arana missed the ball (39’).

Depor Ladies had a much better performance in the second half and Lady Andrade met the crossbar once and minutes later found the equalizer after stealing the ball at the edge of the area, with the first goal on the season, the Galicians had longer ball possessions and, at times, had the rival locked at their side of the field.

The first substitution was the entry of Ainoa Campo for Lady Andrade. The game turned to be equal, with both sides having their moments, but Depor Ladies were having the best opportunities. At minute 70, Peke made a great play on attack, but she didn’t find Athenea inside the area.

The big chance to score for Depor Ladies came at minute 62, Peke found the ball at the edge of the and her strong volley hit the crossbar. Then the visiting side had a series of fatal distractions that were going to cost the game.

Villegas was close to score a won goal trying to pass the ball to the keeper, and from there it came the second goal for Athletic. Leire Monente found the goal after deflecting a cross from the left in a secondary play to the corner-kick.

Ten minutes were left and Manu Sánchez made three changes with the entries of Michelle Romero, Kika and Rosalia Muiño ‘Lía’, but it was too late. The team didn’t create any clear chance to score within the final ten minutes.
