Adrian Castro has been one of the main news during the pre-season. He returned from his loan at Ourense CF, and already won a spot with Fernando Vázquez, to the point that he will be alternating between Fabril and the first team.

On Tuesday, when the transfer window was already closed, director of football Richard Barral told to reporters that one player from Fabril will be alternating between the first team and the B squad during this season, ad that player is Adrián Castro Mesa.

For some people it was a surprise, but it’s was already a plan from the club after recovering the player during the summer. 21-year-old Adri Castro (he will be 22 on Monday) is a youngster that has passed through all the teams at Deportivo, from Alevines to Juveniles.

He was part of the Cadete A team that conquered the national championship in 2014 (Iago Gandoy and Manu Mosquera were his partners). The Cambre-born attacker already had experience training with the first team of Deportivo, when he was at Juvenil A in 2017, Pepe Mel picked him in order to train with the senior squad after scoring 11 goals in the first 18 games at División de Honor.

Last season, the club decided to loan him out in order to gain more experience, and he ended at Ourense CF, club where he scored 11 goals in 27 games in the regular season (Tercera). Described as a player that can perform either on the wing or at the centre of the attack, he also has important characteristics: been lethal inside the area.

As his coach at Ourense CF, Fran Justo, explained in an interview to La Opinión A Coruña, "Where many get nervous or feel accelerated, he is able to keep calm to choose the best option. Either you defend him very well or he will end up finishing the play. It’s typical that when he has a clear chance, 90 or 95% of the time it will end in goal. That something is in danger of extinction and it’s very difficult to have it, and he has that quality."

The arrivals of Miku and Diego Rolán will rest minutes to him, but Castro is content with his progression, as he said after the friendly with Pontevedra CF, “I am very happy. I am at my home. Rolan’s signing was a surprise, but I’m going to keep working. As Richard said yesterday, if the coach doesn't count on me for a game, I have the opportunity to go down with the B squad and give everything.”
