Deportivo search for an identity and a system as it tries to survive in a pitch with artificial grass. Fernando Vázquez loses Salva Ruiz and Bóveda, but recovers Héctor Hernández.

Referee: Jesús Delfa Ramos.
Kick-off: 16h00 CET (Reina Sofía stadium)

Unionistas de Salamanca has existed for only seven years, but Deportivo already met them twice. On last season, Depor faced them in the second round of Copa Del Rey, after a 1-1 draw at the Reino de Sofía, the tie was deiced in a penalty shootout that needed 18 penalties and the Galicians were eliminated.

The Castilian-Leonese outfit was later eliminated by Real Madrid in the following round (agg. 1-3). The other game played against Unionistas was a friendly game on August 7, 2019, Depor won 1-0 and it was played in La Veigona (Asturias).

A lot has been talked about the pitch for this game. The strongest point of Unionistas is considered to be their stadium, the Reina Sofia, which is a modern pitch with artificial grass. The true is that the stats don’t follow this legend of been an impregnable stadium, because after two seasons at Segunda División B, they already lost 8 of the 34 league games played there.

Deportivo didn’t convince in the first two matchdays, therefore coach Fernando Vázquez is still searching for an identity and also a system that suits his team. During the week, he tested a 4-4-2 and a 4-1-4-1. Any of those system will be used in this game, the clear thing is that there will be changes, this for the injuries and also because some key players are starting to gain shape.

Team news: Eneko Bóveda and Salva Ruiz suffered knocks in the visit to Salamanca, and both side defenders are the players at the injury room. Héctor Hernández is recovered from a groin problem and should start together with Jorge Valín. There are no Fabril’s players at the limited roster with 18 players, what happened is that Adri Castro has been suspended  after been sent off in his last game with Ourense CF on last season, there was an appeal, but it was rejected until this week.

Man to watch: Midfielder Uche Agbo. His presence wasn’t confirmed by Fernando Vázquez, but the Nigerian is considered to be a key player and his first appearance as a starter could be the crucial factor to change the current course.

Picked players: (18) Carlos Abad, Lucho García (goalkeepers); Jorge Valín, Derik Osede, Mujaid, Borja Granero, Héctor Hernández (defenders); Álex Bergantiños, Borges, Uche Agbo, Nacho González, Keko Gontán, Lara, Borja Galán, Gandoy (midfielders); Beauvue, Rui Costa & Miku (attackers).

Predicted lineup: (4-4-2) Carlos Abad – Valín, Mujaid, Borja Granero, Héctor Hernández – Keko, Uche Agbo, Borges, Lara – Miku, Beauvue.
The model of this Castilian-Leonese club is very particular, after the disappearance of UD Salamanca, this club and Salamanca CF filled the gap and in this case, it is a club without a clear boss as the governing body is based in the concept of one vote for each partner or socio. And the formula has been working, a couple of years ago they were fighting with Fabril in order to be promoted to Segunda B, now they are playing against their first team, and the goal is clear: to stay in the third tier on next season and continue with the process of growth.

Hernán Pérez is the head coach and the club made massive changes during the summer, their signings came from B squads from Primera clubs like Celta and Real Madrid, and for now the big change hasn’t been noticed in the sense that the team is already adapted and the proof is that they already added four points, which included to add a draw in the tough visit to Pontevedra CF.

Team news: Coach Hernán Pérez has no major injuries for the game, he announced that the only doubt is midfielder Manuel Viana, who was one of the biggest signings made during the summer and his presence will be assessed on Sunday.

Man to watch: Striker Carlos de La Nava. The marksman of the club and one of the few that continue from last season. He already made 110 official appearances with the white and black shirt, a record for the club. He already scored once ad will direct the offensive moves of his team.

Picked players: Roster to be released until Sunday.

Predicted lineup: (4-4-2) Serna - Marin, Mario Gómez, Acosta, Jon Rojo – Josue, De la Nava, Ramiro, Carmona – Aythami, Álex Rey.
