2020 ended with a defeat for Depor Ladies. The gals did what they could against one of the strongest clubs in Europe.

Coach Manu Sánchez was recovering Alba Merino, who was returning from a suspension, goalkeeper Ester Sullastres and attacker Kenni Thompson were the only players injured. This was going to be the last game of Rosalía Muiño 'Lía', who is going to return to the USA in January. She was a starter for the second straight opportunity.

It was a big loss, but it cannot be said that it was a bad game for Depor Ladies. In front there was one of the strongest teams in Europe and the team did what they could in order to avoid a bigger defeat. At least the Ladies managed to score once: After ten games, only Real Sociedad had scored against the Catalans and they have won every game with a big margin (the lowest was a 3-0 over Atlético).

The game started with Barcelona FC dominating the actions, their first chance to score was a cross of Pereira headed by Oshoala and that Noe Bermúdez deflected to corner-kick (4’). Depor Ladies were locked at their side of the pitch, but at least the defence was working and could even have claimed the lead in a fast attack in which the crossed shot of Gaby passed close to the far post (17’).

But only three minutes later the goals started to arrive. The first two were scored by Jennifer Hermoso and both scored through a header.  The first after a cross from Melanie, and the second after a cross from Mariona.

The third goal also arrived after a header, this time the scorer was Asisat Oshoala and she was assisted by Martens. The three goals came from the left wing defended by Cris, which turned to be the weak point of Depor Ladies.

The bleeding continued on the left wing and the fourth goal arrived exactly in the same way, Martens was the one releasing the cross again, and this time Aitana Bonmatí was the one heading the ball on goal. It wasn’t a bad first half for the locals, but the weakness defending the crosses ruined their chances in the game.

The party for the Catalans continued in the second half, only one minute after the kick-off, a cross from Ana-Maria Crnogorčević was deflected by Bermúdez with the ball hitting the crossbar later. Four minutes later, the fifth goal arrived. Mariona made the play on the right and Oshoala resolved inside the area though a volley.

Barcelona FC started to make changes and Depor Ladies were going to pull a goal. It was a great play of Lia on the left, she released a cross that Alba Merino converted through a crossed shot. Then Michelle Romero replaced Athenea.

Then the game turned to be more passive. Depor Ladies didn’t want to concede more goals and spent the time holding on, while the Catalans lowered the pace and didn’t have clear opportunities. Lia was replaced by Helena Torres in the second substitution for the locals.

But Barcelona FC pushed within the final ten minutes and the sixth goal arrived anyway, it was a lateral free-kick from the left released by Alexia Putellas and substitute Marta Torrejón found the ball at the edge of the area to score with a low shot. The last opportunity was a shot of Vicky Losada saved by Bermúdez (85’). The game ended with the entry of Lorena Bedoya for Stephannie Blanco
