Right-back LAURE had such a storming impact at Deportivo B during the season 2007/2008 that former coach Lotina counted on him to replace injured Manuel Pablo against Villarreal during a liga game in 2008. Laure left a positive impression and signed a professional contract at the club running until 2013. Since then he has been competing with veteran Manuel Pablo for a starting spot at the right-back position and renewed his contract in November of 2012, now he’s linked to the club until 2016 and will try to help Deportivo to settle at Primera División.

Madrid-born Laure arrived to La Coruña in July of 2007 and became the first new arrival at Deportivo B ahead of the season 2007/08. He had been captain of Real Madrid C after been signed from Segunda B outfit Leganés. His contract was ending, so there was no fee involved when he went to Deportivo B from the same league. Quickly he became one of the pillars of the team next to Fabricio and Álex Bergantiños. He explained it like this: “Usually it’s very difficult to have a place at the starting eleven of a Segunda B club, especially if you’re a new signing. But at Deportivo B it was easy for me, because there’s such a good vibe in the dressing room. My team mates have made the situation very easy. I feel comfortable playing offensively, also because last year I had even more responsibilities there and had more space. Now my target is to defend, although depending on our rivals”. Assistant-coach Juan Riveiro of Deportivo B called him “incredible” and “the best signing of the season”. He added: “He makes an incredible sacrifice and you need to do the impossible to surpass him. It's a little exaggerated, but when he sends a cross, before the rival’s strikers gets the ball he has already returned to the back zone. He has found his place at the team really quickly.”

Things went really quickly then. Deeply-troubled Deportivo needed a right defender to replace injured Manuel Pablo against Villarreal (Jan 13, 2008), and Lotina picked Laure. He already announced the day before that Laure was going to start, and so he did. The defender connected really well with Guardado at the right, even though the Mexican was new to this position. Especially in the first half both were very active, and striker Adrián should have scored when he failed to connect to a cross delivered by Laure. Near the end of the match it was Guardado who scored Deportivo’s third goal after a pass by Laure. All-in-all it was a good debut of the defender, but playing good didn’t count much those days at Deportivo. Another match was lost despite having taken the lead twice and having been the dominant team for at least sixty minutes.

But despite the result, Laure was excited about his debut. “I’m living on a cloud right now”, he said. “A dream has come true because to play in Primera is the dream of every player. My friends and team mates from Deportivo B have been calling me during the whole week! I was little nervous before the match and had some troubles getting sleep, but on the pitch, I was just excited because I had been waiting for this for years”. Asked about the players who have his attention, he named Coloccini, Manuel Pablo, Sergio, Riki and Guardado. He also revealed how his colleagues had treated him. “Coloccini said that I just had to work as in the B-team, and Sergio advised me to start with easy passes to gain confidence. After the match everyone was disappointed with the result, of course, but they congratulated me with my debut and assistant-coach Ribera told me that they were satisfied with my work”. Asked for his favourite opponent, he said: “Ronaldinho, I would love to stop him!”

Laure didn’t play again that season but it wasn’t because of negative reasons. Manuel Pablo returned and played an impressive campaign, and Barragán was also back in competition. But Laure did make it into the squad again for several matches. It were the days of the youngsters as Fabricio, Chapi, Adrián López, Laure and Xisco were all getting opportunities. But as Chapi was allowed to leave, Adrián López and Laure were given professional contracts (and midfielder Álex too). Laure signed a contract until 2011 and Lotina, who asked for that, quickly revealed that Laure was going nowhere next season and would stay at Deportivo despite interest of many clubs from Segunda A.

And with Manuel Pablo injured again during the start of the season 2008/2009, Laure had the chance to be a starter during the first matchdays in liga, including the opening day against Real Madrid, game in which he had a decent job no matter been forced to face Robben all night long. After this game the Madrilenian defender shown his optimism about the rest of the season, “My intention is to play everything: UEFA, the Copa, friendly matches, la liga ... And always during the fully ninety minutes. I want everything, so I will be able to demonstrate that I have a spot at Deportivo, and that I can be here for many years.”

But things weren’t so easy for Laure; the lack of experience affected him and in some specific matches he was criticised for leaving some blank spots in defence, Lotina noticed it and preferred to choose for Piscu during some matches, like the visit to Brann Bergen in the UEFA Cup, this no matter that Manuel Pablo and Barragán were still injured. Later on the season Lotina even tested with De Guzman in that position for one of the legs against AaB in the UEFA CUP. And with Canarian Manuel Pablo full recovered at the middle of the first round in liga, Laure disappeared from the lineups. But the young defender had a second chance after Manuel Pablo got injured again after the home victory over Villarreal (3-0). Lotina opted for Piscu during the following game at Mallorca, but as the central defender got injured too at the end of that game, Laure replaced him at minute 83 and stayed at the starting eleven for the following nine liga encounters (Osasuna, Valencia, Numancia, Racing, Sporting, Betis, Espanyol, Atletico Madrid and Athletic Bilbao).

This time the right-back had a more solid performance and was praised by the media and the fans. But with Manuel Pablo recovered, the Madrilenian was ruled out again for the final seven matchdays in liga. In the end Laure was able to perform in fourteen liga matches, three Copa Del Rey encounters and two UEFA Cup games during the season, not a bad number considering it was his debuting campaign as a first team member. Now Laure hopes that, with the exit of Barragán already materialized, the upcoming seasons will see his consolidation as the main alternative to Manuel Pablo at the right-back position in Deportivo’s defensive sector.

On July 30th, 2009 Laure signed an extension of contract for two additional years, something that proves the confidence of the club on him. After the renewal was signed, the defender expressed his satisfaction with the event, "I'm really happy, because I have just completed my first year, and the renewal is giving me more confidence and secureness. I will try to play all the possible minutes and to see the coaches happy with me."

However, his performance on the season 2009-/2010 left mixed feelings for the fans. The Madrilenian had the weird behavior of playing decent games against big rivals like Real Madrid and Cristiano Ronaldo, but later failed against smaller clubs like in the visit to Sporting Gijón (matchday 28). He also had to cover the casualty of Filipe at the left sector and the true is that he never looked confident at that side of the pitch.
