Player of the year - season 2011/2012

Andrés Guardado is the player of the season 2011/12. The Mexican winger is the first player at the club with double-digit marks since Djalminha. He clearly dominated the chart from start to finish and was a vital piece for the promotion.

Definitely the season 2011/12 was a happy year for Deportivo; the Blanquiazul outfit, now coached by José Luis Oltra, clinched the promotion to Primera División and broke all kind of records in the way out of Segunda, so it’s normal to see an offensive player chosen as the best player of the season, and it shouldn’t be a surprise to see Andrés Guardado as the favourite player of the peña members at

And it’s that the Mexican winger was one of the offensive  references in the scheme of Oltra; an important fact was that, this time, the ex-Atlas man wasn’t affected by the injures, in this sense he only missed one game due to injury reasons (the visit to UD Almeria), plus other five for been picked by his national team.

In this way a “healthy” Guardado commanded Deportivo during its short adventure at liga Adelante, and there’s a powerful stat that proves the importance of the Mexican during the season: he scored ten goals an provided twelve assists, becoming into the first player since the season 1999/2000 that achieves double-digit marks at Depor –the last man that did the same was Djalminha-

Only three players at Segunda División did the same on this season: Guardado, Celta’s Fabián Orellana and Hércules’ Michel, and there were only two players with double-digit marks at Primera División: stars Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. It proves that it isn’t something easy to achieve.

Centre midfielder Juan Dominguez is the best young player of the season; the Galician youngster earned a spot at the starting formation for the first round’ derby; since then he exploded and turned into one of the best assistors at the team.

Finally Juan Dominguez has found a road to the first team of Deportivo; the 22-year-old centre midfielder has been at Depor’s senior squad within the last two years, but it was until the season, with Depor relegated to Segunda División, that he made a deep impact on the team.

In previous seasons he was pointing out to be a talented player, but that needed more participation and especially “more blood” on the field. The arrival of Oltra provided the confidence that he needed, and the player demonstrated that he has the character to assume a starting role at the team.

However, it wasn’t easy to claim a protagonic role as he started the liga tournament sat on the bench; it was until Jesús Vázquez got suspended for the derby against RC Celta that the Pontedeume-born player gained a spot at the starting team; since that day he only missed one match, the 0-1 loss at Girona CF (matchday 32), this due to a suspension.

Right winger Bruno Gama is the best signing of the season 2011/12; he spent injured the first third part of the liga campaign, only to explode in the second round scoring goals and giving assists in almost all the matches.

Portuguese Bruno Gama has been chosen as the best signing of the season 2011/12; the right winger left a positive impression since the first day of the pre-season, but a groin injury during the Teresa Herrera against Sevilla CF left him in the sidelines during the first third part of the liga season. He debuted for the visit to Real Murcia playing as a substitute for five minutes (matchday 12).

Little by little he started to gain weight at the team and ended as the most in-form player during the second round, scoring seven goals and providing eight assists. The Portuguese man proved to be the best counterpart for Guardado, because both are talented players that either can penetrate by the sides or combine by the centre.
