Opportunistic striker CARLOS was born in 1977 in Venezuela but in 1992 emigrated with his parents to Spain. He joined the youth ranks of Deportivo, debuted in Deportivo B and from there on made his debut for the first team in 1998. He even scored a goal although his participations would remained limited to that season.
Fabril, as Deportivo B are called, played in the Segunda División B and there he shined. Back then Carlos said that “the daily training sessions differ a lot from those in other countries” but he made such an impact that coach Corral used him in the first team. He was only twenty years of age when on 22 February, 1998 the Galicians suffered an injury crisis and had many players away on international duty. That’s why youngsters David Fernández and Maikel formed the attacking duo in Riazor against Athlétic de Bilbao.
Armando and Maikel hit the goals which gave Deportivo a 2-0 lead before Carlos replaced the tall striker. Barely eight minutes later he scored Deportivo’s third on a memorable night. Carlos commented that “I didn’t feel very nervous that Sunday in Riazor. I received precise instructions from my coach and when he called me to replace Maikel I felt a lot of joy. I fought with the Bilbao defence, scored a goal and almost hit another”. The next Liga match, at Celta de Vigo, he formed a partnership with David Fernández but the match was lost 2-1. But March and April he was given five new entrances during Liga matches but didn’t score another goal.
During the summer of 1998 new coach Javier Irureta arrived at the club and the squad was renovated. More than €11 million was spent on ‘Turu’ Flores and Pauleta and the youngsters (David, Maikel, Deus, Carlos) saw their options diminishing although fast Carlos’ kept on playing at Deportivo B. But new chances never arrived. In 1999 the club added Roy Makaay to their squad and Carlos was loaned out to Toledo. But a serious injury made him returning to La Coruńa.
After his time at the second team of Deportivo he played seasons at Pájara Playas ad Gimnástica, without much success. Until he returned to Deportivo B and scored twenty-six goals for them in the Tercera División during the season 2002/2003. He finished topscorer in the First Group of this league and in 2003 was signed by Ourense from the Segunda División B. After having scored ten goals for them he moved to Burgos in 2004.
