Deportivo has lived lately a little crisis trying to cover the wingers position. Far and away are the times in which Víctor and Fran dictated personal lessons to the rivals. A reinforcement was desperately asked by Irureta and later by his successor, Joaquín Caparrós. And Lendoiro has finally solved the request with the arrival of a talented Uruguayan: FABIAN ESTOYANOFF.

Estoyanoff has been described as a winger that uses the velocity as his best weapon. He also has the virtue to elude the rivals without too may problems. The Uruguayan winger (nicknamed as Lolo) started his career in Fénix during the year 2000, the club was at that time in the Second division. He scored his first goal in the 1-0 victory against Deportivo Colonia, he contributed with another three goals to the promotion of his team to the first Division.

In 2001 he shared a spot in the club with Sebastián Taborda, another player that has Deportivo as destiny. Estoyanoff scored four goals and helped his team to qualify to Torneo Apertura and Clausura (In Uruguay a Qualifying tournament is played in order to know who goes to the main championships and who goes to the promotion series). Later, the Uruguayan player made a good job and scored three goals in both tournaments.

In 2002 he made an important contribution to Fénix in the Qualifying tournament. He scored five goals and once again Fénix achieved a qualification to Torneo Apertura and Clausura. Peñarol was impressed with his skills and soon a transfer was negotiated. In fact, Peñarol tried to sign Estoyanoff before, but the club failed to recollect the $350,000 that Fénix was asking for the 20% of his rights one year before.

In Peñarol, Estoyanoff scored one goal in Torneo Apertura and five more in Torneo Clausura, helping his squad to achieve a place in the Copa Libertadores 2003. during the season 2003 'Lolo' helped his squad to achieve the national championship and scored his first goal in Copa Libertadores, but he had to return to Fénix in the year 2004. At that time the young player had a record of 20 caps with Uruguay's national team.

Valencia get interested in the talented player and soon they signed him for €4 million and a contract for 5 years. Javier Subirats (Ex-Valencia's sporting director) explained the reasons for the operation: "He is one of the best promises in Uruguay and he has an ascending career. The player is one of the bets for Valencia's future." It was stipulated that he will expend the season 2004/2005 in a loan spell and Cádiz was selected has his destiny.

The Uruguayan made a good presentation with Cádiz but his effort wasn't enough to save the club. The team coached by the Uruguayan trainer Espárrago ended in relegation positions, but Estoyanoff made a decent job. He played in 29 matches although that he only completed the 90 minutes in 4 occasions. He scored two goals (against Real Sociedad and Málaga) and proved that he was ready for bigger challenges.

But the wings of change were surrounding Valencia. Subirats left the club and the new director Amadeo Carboni wasn't convinced about the value of Estoyanoff. The ex-defender preferred to give him a new chance and negotiated a loan spell with Deportivo, at that time Lendorio was aware of the qualities of the player and also negotiated a €4 million buyout clause that he aspires to fulfill, as he appointed during the presentation of the player: "We are hopefully about the fact of starting the operation in which we will buy the player. I wish that his career in Depor will last several years." Now Estoyanoff has to demonstrate in the pitch that he deserves this effort.
