Midfielder JAIME SÁNCHEZ was raised in the youth system of Real Madrid but didn't triumph with the blancos. His move in 1999 to Deportivo coincided with their first ever Liga title that season but the midfielder himself wouldn’t play another Liga match since for the Galicians.
As a player he is the classical midfield organizer, using both legs. But aged twenty-three Jaime was loaned out by Real Madrid to Racing de Santander for the season 1996/1997 and made his Liga debute on 1 September, 1996. It concerned a match against Romario’s Valencia but the home side nevertheless won 3-2. Jaime’s club finished thirteenth that season while he participated in thirty-six matches for them.
What he had shown in Santander was enough for Real Madrid to take him back for what would become two good seasons regarding trophies. During his years in the capital (1997-1999) Real Madrid won the Supercopa, the Champions League and the Toyota Cup. His club didn’t win a Liga title though and Jaime mainly was a substitute in his second season. After a total of forty-five Liga matches he received permission to leave the club.
Aged twenty-six all parties agreed on a €2,4 million transfer from Real Madrid to Deportivo. But again his destiny was to be the bench. At Deportivo he faced competition of players like Mauro Silva, Emerson, César Sampaio, Jokanovic, Duscher and Sergio and he was never capable of impressing Irureta. He nevertheless played 21 Liga matches during his first season in Galician which saw Deportivo winning their first ever Liga title. But most of these appearances had been as a substitute and a solution had to be found.
In the summer of 2000 he was loaned out to Racing de Santander. But despite playing 21 matches for them he could not help avoid their relegation. Luck wasn't to be on Jaime's side as his next loan out, to Tenerife, ended up in another relegation. Third time lucky is what they say and during the season 2002/2003 he played a good season in Germany at Hannover'96, becoming a well known player in the Bundesliga.
Jaime proved once again to have a good shot and the responsibility to manage the team's midfield. He was appreciated in Germany and was considered a local hero there. It convinced Irureta to retake him for the squad needed to play the season 2003/2004 although he only was used during some Copa matches that campaign. During the winter months another loan out was agreed on and Jaime returned to Germany to play for Hannover'96 once again.
A permanent solution had to be found in 2004 because his contract was to run out one year later. Aged thirty-one now it was time to find a new club in the Primera División and Jaime signed a contract at Albacete.
