PABLO PINILLOS was one of few defenders of Deportivo B to make his debut in the first team. But like many others he didn’t have a future at the club and would only play one season in the Primera División, until at a latter stage of his career he played at the highest level with Levante.
The defender, born in La Rioja, was twenty-three of age when he was signed by Deportivo B in 1997. But the problems of the first squad during the season 1997/1998, as Deportivo finished twelfth and suffered many injuries, made him debuting in the Primera División on 11 January, 1998 at home against Tenerife. Alfredo and Nando had been let go in the weeks before and Pinillos was brought on two other occasions. He played four matches as a starter, used both at the left and right wing.
But that summer Javier Irureta arrived at the club and the flanks were strengthened with Romero and Manuel Pablo. Both defenders played matches for Spain in the years after it and became starters for the club for years in a row. It made Pinillos playing no more matches in the first team and in 1999 he was sold to Toledo. One year later he went to Compostela where he played three seasons.
Aged twenty-nine he was signed by Levante who achieved promotion from the Segunda División that season. It made Pinillos return to the highest level more than six years after his debut with Deportivo as he had become an important figure in their defence.
