At the start of the nineties, Catalan midfielder RAMIS was considered a big talent in Spain and made his professional debut at Real Madrid. It was December, 1992 when 22-year old Ramis played alongside Sanchís, Michel, Butragueño and Zamorano but lost 2-0 at Rayo Vallecano. Although he was booked for dangerous play, his debut was pretty successful and Ramis would play a total of seven matches that campaign.

During the season 1993/1994 he even reached a number of seventeen appearances, although many of them were realized being a substitute. His debut that season in November, 1993 can be considered a big success: he scored the winning goal against Celta de Vigo, minutes after he had replaced Prosinecki. But the campaign ended in failure for Real Madrid as they finished fourth, and Ramis was included in the deal taking Tenerife’s Fernando Redondo to the capital. The supporters of Real Madrid are used to see stars appearing in their team, and Ramis didn’t look like one. Their fans considered him to be too insecure, and Ramis was gone.

On the island his career started to flourish, and in two seasons he reached playing sixty Liga matches for them. Tall Ramis moved a line down in the team, became a secure defender, and in 1996 his team finished fifth in the table. But Real Madrid needed him again, as they had included a clause that they could take him back for about €1,1 million. They used the clause, and immediately sold him to Sevilla to take Suker to the capital. For the second time in his career he was used as exchange money. But again Ramis impressed at a club from the Primera División, although his club suffered relegation. The defender played thirty-nine Liga matches that campaign, and raised the interest of Deportivo.

Ramis, who was quicker than he might appeared, signed a contract at Deportivo running until 30 June, 2001. But the season 1997/1998 ended in disaster for the club, as the title aspirants finished twelfth in the Liga. There were many rotations, and Ramis never gained the confidence of coaches Silva and Corral. He still reached eighteen Liga matches, but in many of them was only brought on as a substitute. The arrival of Irureta in 1998 did him well, and Ramis entered probably the best weeks of his career. He played the first seven matches of the season 1998/1999 from finish to start, until bad luck struck in November, 1998. Ramis suffered a serious injury against Mallorca and was replaced by Romero.

One does not know what would have happened, had Ramis stayed fit. But he did not, and the defensive pair Naybet-Schürrer finished the season well. Ramis made his come-back against Extremadura in June, 1999. And one week later he replaced Naybet during the break of the final match at Real Madrid (1-3). Deportivo missed qualification for Champions League football that day, but were back in Europe after one season having missed it. Ramis was fit, and his future looked bright.

But then he already had his best period behind him, as for the start of the season Irureta put his confidence in new signing César Martín. Only in December, 1999 did he make his first Liga appearance that season, as the competition of Naybet, Donato, Schürrer and the already mentioned Asturian defender proved to be too much. The only matches he started, against Zaragoza and Alavés, finished in 2-1 defeats. Although Deportivo won the title that campaign, Irureta’s lack of trust and small injuries seriously hampered his career.

Ramis would play just one more Liga match at Deportivo, almost one year after the one at Alavés. It was 27 January, 2001 when the team drew 2-2 at Athlétic de Bilbao. That campaign Portuguese defender Hélder took over his position as fourth defender, and some days after this Liga match he was given permission to sign at Racing de Santander. His debut there on 11 February, 2001 was like dream as he scored the second goal of his team in a 4-0 home win against Barcelona. But he finished the season in ‘style’, as the club got relegated to the Segunda División. In December 2002 he joined Galician team Ferrol, once again suffered relegation but one year later came back with them to the Segunda División.
