Santiago-born VIQUEIRA was one of the few Deportivo youth players playing more than a dozen matches at the club since its promotion to the Primera División in 1991 until now. Aged nineteen he was brought by John Toshack during the season 1995/1996 together with another talent of his generation: David Fernández. But with the exception of Fran no youth player became important for the club, not David nor Viqueira.
His Liga debut he made on 17 September, 1995 during a 2-0 home win against Salamanca. Together with Mauro Silva and Fran he formed the midfield, not bad for a player of his age. But most of his minutes he would get in the final part of the season as he was present during consecutive matches from matchday twenty-seven until and including thirth-nine. Viqueira played a total of nineteen Liga matches that season, just three less than his better known colleague from Deportivo B.
But like many other players he suffered from the reinforcements which came in the summer of 1996. Players like Martins and Rivalo arrived while Martín-Vázquez recovered from his injury. It made him play just seven more matches, of which one as a starter.
In 1998 he was released by the club and Viqueira moved to Campomaiorense in Portugal. From there he returned to Spain to play for Xérez during the period 2000-2002. With them he made such a good impression that he was offered another chance to play Primera División football. Newly-promoted Recreativo de Huelva signed him in July, 2002 during their preparations for life back in Spain's top flight. 27-year-old Viqueira signed a two-year contract with the Andalucian club, who won promotion to the Primera División after an exile of more than two decades.
He scored during his Liga return on 1 September, 2002 although he couldn’t avoid a 2-3 home loss against Málaga. But Viqueira became an important piece of the team and played a total of thirty-two matches that season, scoring three goals. His two others he scored during a 5-0 crushing of Villarreal. A highlight for the club was the Copa del Rey final they played (but lost) against Mallorca.
One of the personal highlights for Viqueira must have been the match on 7 December, 2002 against Deportivo. Viqueira was one of the best players on the pitch during the 1-1 draw but suffered something else during the return match: a 5-0 defeat during his return to Riazor.
