RODOLFO BODIPO DIAZ is a fast and tall striker that always creates troubles to the rivals thanks to his physical characteristics. Born in Sevilla, his family is from Equatorial Guinea and he has played two matches for their national team. As Caparrós and Bodipo know each-other well from their time at Recreativo, time will tell whether their reunion will become successful again.
Bodipo was twenty-one when he started at Recreativo back in 1999 coming from little Isla Cristina. There he met Caparrós and quickly the striker became an important piece in the usual line-ups during two years. In 2001 he moved to the Racing de Santander and helped them returning to the Primera División.
Between the years 2002 and 2004 he scored sixteen goals for Racing at the highest level. Then it was Dimitry Piterman who picked him as reference for the promotion campaign of Alavés. Bodipo was brilliant returning in the Segunda División and scored sixteen goals. But things were totally different when Alavés returned to the highest level in 2005.
Alavés had a slow start and at the end of the season paid a price for it: relegation back to the Segunda División. All could have been different when Bodipo scored his seventh goal of the season against Deportivo (1-0) on the final matchday of the season. Alavés won, but a late goal of Espanyol saved the Catalans instead of the Basques.
With Alavés back at a lower level, Piterman was forced to sell some of his most important players. Caparrós suggested Bodipo's signing to Lendoiro and in the end a deal was closed estimated at €2 million. In ninety matches at the highest level Bodipo scored twenty-three goals. At Deportivo he will have the difficult task to step into the shadow of players like Bebeto, Makaay and Tristán.
