Midfielder PITA was one of the few Deportivo B players used by legendary coach Javier Irureta at the club and could be part of the Galician midfield in the next years. However, his name hasn’t been repeated as much as the ones of Iago, Iván Carril and Xisco to name a few. Still, the creative midfielder did well during his loan spell at Logrońés (2006/2007) and could solve Depor’s midfield problems with the departure of Duscher in the summer of 2007.

Pita (22), who was born in La Coruńa, appeared in the press when Irureta picked him for the Champions League match against Olympiakos in September 2004. Having played before at Galicia Gaiteira and Deportivo Juveniles, the midfielder of Deportivo B, was praised by Ernesto Bello (the technical coordinator of the youth system) because of his “great passing abilities.” Eventually Pita didn’t appear in that match, but still made his Liga debut on the final match day of the season when Deportivo drew 1-1 at Numancia to achieve a place in the Intertoto competition. It was the final match of Irureta at the club, but it could have delivered a fine talent for the future.

However, new coach Caparrós did not use him during the season 2005/2006. Although the Andalucian coach is known for his ability to scout talent, he opted for the tandem Sergio-Duscher in midfield and had both Coloccini, De Guzmán and even ‘Toro’ Acuńa available as back-up to them. It was the reason why Pita could fully concentrate on his matches at Deportivo B, a generation full of talents like Mackay, Adrián López, Iván Carril, Senel, Xisco and Iago. But the boys were denied promotion to the Segunda División B in the final match of the season, meaning that most of them would have to leave (on loan or sold) to continue their progress at a higher level.

The arrival of Juan Rodríguez and Verdú at the club certainly didn’t increase Pita’s chances to get into the first squad. In August 2006 a loan deal with CD Logrońés of the Segunda División B - Grupo II was achieved, where quickly Pita became an important player and even one of the topscorers of the team (six goals in thirty-five matches). In December 2006 he commented on his situation at Logrońés: “I like it here. Since my arrival I’ve been treated very well. And as a player I feel more comfortable as the weeks go by. Besides, the city as well as the team have surprised me in a positive way.” When asked about a possible return to the first squad of Deportivo, Pita said: “That’s very difficult. It seems that nowadays there’s more confidence in younger players than before, and that increases possibilities. But for now I’m not thinking about that. Deportivo have great players in midfield and there always has been more faith in players coming from outside.”

When the season was over, Pita received a message from the club that he is expected to join the first squad on 16 July at Abegondo. This was partly based on the excellent information new coach Lotina received about his period at Logrońés. Pita described it as “a reward for having worked hard. Last year I tried my luck in a higher division and everything went well. The level is much higher in Segunda B compared to Tercera. Now I want to demonstrate at Deportivo that I’ve learned a lot away from home”.
