Gerard signs for Monaco, says agent
By Simon Baskett
MADRID, June 1 (Reuters) - Barcelona's Spanish midfielder Gerard has signed a four-year deal with French Ligue 1 side Monaco, his agent said on Wednesday.
"He was in Monaco early this morning to pass a medical and then flew back to Barcelona where he signed all the papers that will see him join the team for the next four years," Jose Maria Orobitg told Reuters by telephone.
"It was all a bit of a rush, but the deal has now been completed."
Gerard's contract with Spanish champions Barcelona expires at the end of June.
Once one of Spain's brightest prospects in midfield, Gerard signed for Barcelona from Valencia in 2000 for just over $20 million but his progress at the club was hampered by a succession of injury problems.
The 26-year-old had been in talks with Barca over a possible contract renewal but the recent signing of Dutch international midfielder Mark van Bommel from PSV Eindhoven pushed him further down the pecking order at the Catalan club.
Gerard, who won six caps for Spain in 2000, underwent surgery on a groin injury last November and played only 13 league games for Barca this season.
Monaco will play in the Champions League third qualifying round next season after finishing third in Ligue 1 behind Olympique Lyon and Lille.

Milan are going to sign 1 superstar rumoured to be a certain Ronaldo who walked out on there bitter rivals Inter after a successfull world cup despite the fact they stood by him when he was injured.

David Pizarro is up for grabs even though his team qualified for the CL, Roma and Inter seem the favourites but there is also interest from Spain.
