Tottenham are leading the chase to sign Deportivo La Coruna midfielder Julian de Guzman.

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp is desperate to strengthen his squad during the January trasnfer window and feels his team need more fighting qualities.

De Guzman, 27, was named player of the season for Deportivo last year and has been attracting interest from clubs in Spain, Germany and England.

Middlesbrough have also been tracking his progress, but Redknapp seems to be in pole position to clinch the signing of the Canada international.

i wrote somewhere else that IF we need to let somebody go, i hope it's Guzzie cause we're on a higher level now.
But i sure didnt write that knowing that we would get nothing for him! Lendoiro is dumb not to get him extension and than sell him, OR there weren't any requests for him from other clubs yet so he waited...

It certainly doesn't look good...oh, let's enjoy our time in UEFA Cup, good times are not about to come back quickly

EDIT: I've sent him an email. Don't really think it can change something, but I wanted to let him know we all admit him and want him to stay.

I did too. I wrote on his facebook wall.

The man's got to do whats best for himself though, and not whats best for us. It seems that he's simply not being offered a new contract, so he has to make his decisions now. I think it's pretty much a 'you know it's going to happen, it's just a matter of when' situation now. And for the clubs sake, I hope it's during this transfer window so we can actually get some money for him.

He has made it clear that he wants stay at Depor, but clearly the club is so messed up that it really has to make cuts wherever possible (which includes many others following Julian out the door). At the moment for me, it seems the progress this team is making is pointless if half the team is not going to be here next season. How depressing. And how unbelievably realistic.

it's off topic, but where is that "big fan from mexico (?) what is gonna invest money in the club but not buy it" thing from last year? I remember the pic with Lendoiro as they were friends.

Well, how much money could we get for him? I imagine Spurs will splash out the cash.

???

Nobody will pay for a player who is available for free, so NOTHING!

That is what I hate in Lendoiro: that is fair and square he made this club succesful, but he didn't think about a long run of that Deportivo. And now we have to "offload" all our key players, some of them even for free! Disappointing...

It seemed to me from that article that he might go before the close of the winter market. In that case, we could get money for him. If Harry is desperate to get him, I would say 10-12 million would be good.

Spurs definitely have to move fast - they're in the relegation zone now. But 10m - 12m is optomistic. I'd be happy with 4.5m.

I'd rather get something than nothing, but I worry about enough midfield cover for the rest of the season.

It's horrible to think about. De Guzman, Verdu, Manuel Pablo, Sergio, Pablo Alvarez all currently not being offered contract renewals, therefore likely to leave for FREE. A club that desperately needs money is letting players leave for free, and key players at that. It doesn't make sense. We could of got money for them, but now our situation is just getting worse. It's typical Lendoiro - Poor organisation. We have no shirt sponsor, no money and soon half the team will be gone. Lafita is definitely going as we know too, and Guardado and Filipe are going to be very hard to keep a hold of.

WOOPTY FRICKIN' DOO!
