Thumbs up African Best Player of the Year Award

Cameroon striker Samuel Eto’o Fils won his third successive Confederation of African Football (CAF) Player of the Year Award after he was picked ahead of Chelsea stars Didier Drogba and Michael Essien at an elaborate and colourful ceremony in the Nigerian capital city of Abuja on Thursday.

Eto'o's tally of 108 votes was just two better than Drogba's 106, with Essien claiming only 50 votes from Caf's member nations.

CAF AWARD WINNERS

African Player of the Year:

Samuel Eto'o - Cameroon, Barcelona (Spain)

Young Player of the Year:

John Mikel Obi - Nigeria, Lyn Oslo (Norway)

Female Player of the Year:

Perpetua Nkwocha - Nigeria

National Team of the Year:

Ivory Coast

Inter-clubs Player of the Year:

Mohamed Barakat - Ahly (Egypt) [hope depor will sign him someday]

Inter-Club Team of the Year:

Ahly (Egypt)

What do u think.... about this Award... if it was upto me, i'll vote to Didier Drogba.... because he did well and the competition between them Drogba win them all.... example Eto'o vs Drogba in the World Cup Qualifies Drogba won and put ivory coast in Germany... and they met again and played the Q/F and Eto'o wasted the penalty while Drogba scored and put Ivory Coast in to the S/final and then To the Final........ but i don't know why.... ???

Did he deserve this .......... ? your Comments.. plz..

Eto'o deserved that title MUCH more the Drogba if u ask me. Drogba isn't scoring as many goals as Eto'o, and he's not working that as Eto'o too. So grats to Eto'o.

The other awards ..

There's some players i don't know, but i think it's ok.

Eto'o - World class striker who has been consistently brillaint over the past 2 years

Drogba - Very strong and quick, has had a decent season with Chelsea but at last people are starting to realise that Crespo is waaaaaaaaay better than him

Eto'o may talk more, he certainly rates himself! The reality is though that he can back it up with his performances. He probably deserved it, not that the size of his head will suffer.

Are you kidding? Mikel is currently in the biggest mess of a transferever as Chelsea, Man Utd are battling hard and dirty for him. He has supposedly signed for Utd but is appealing the transfer since he claims he's been forced to do it. A lot of greedy agents are in the mess too...

We've got more chance of Makaay coming back than we have of getting Obi Mikel from the ManUtd/Chelsea squabble.
