Default UEFA Cup 2005/06

Decided to create separate topic about the UEFA cup. I hope it will be popular enough...

Now all the participants of the group stage are clear. Some sensations, of course!

Galatasaray is out because of 1-1 home draw against Tromso! The first match score was 1-0 in favour of Norwegians.

Partizan lost 2-5 at home to Israeli Maccabi Petach-Tikva after 2-0 away win!

Romanian Dinamo Bucuresti felt safe in the secon match after 5-1 home win. 1-0 means nothing for Everton.

Sporting Lisbon one more time proved its impotence after losing 2-3 (AET) to Swedish Halmstadt at home! Great job by Swedes!!!

CSKA Sofia knocked out Leverkusen by two 1-0 wins! Levski beat Auxerre on away goals! Litex beat Genk! 3 Bulgarian clubs enter the group stage!

As to Russians all 4 clubs had tough games!

Lokomotiv Moscow played major part of the game with 11 men against 10! Lima missed a penalty!!! Brann players scored 2 goals shorthanded!!! But in the end of the match Loko showed its strength and won 3-2 (5-3 agg).

CSKA Moscow had enough problems in Denmark. Midtjylland scored first and had many chances later. But CSKA has Daniel Carvalho. He scored 2 goals (like in the 1st game!) and CSKA won 3-1 (like in the 1st game!).

Zenit St.Petersburg had very difficult match in Athens after home 0-0 draw against AEK. Personal class of Andrey Arshavin who scored the only goal by fantstic long shot on the last minute decided the result.

Unfortunately Krylia Sovetov had very bad luck in Holland. After 5-3 win at home they had 1-0 lead against AZ but lost 1-3. I must mention that Krylia Sovetov have ver big financial problems this year and sold out all their top players. So their play against AZ is very respected by me!

Now the full list of clubs (from uefa.com):

Worthy of mentioning is that Halmstad are struggling to avoid relegation from the Swedish leauge - which is rated as the 24:th best in Europe. They played a heroic game but it's awful by Sporting.

FC Copenhagen the rival club at my own team were beaten by a english referee who at the standing 0-0 (which was enough to throw HSV out) gave HSV 2 non existing penalties. The first one was saved by the goalie and the late one game in 2 minutes og overtime and was very very fishy...

The biggest scandal in many years created by an english referee that is not even deciding in the second best league.

Did any of you see this??

For me groups D, F, G and H look the hardest. Espesially H... Besiktas, Sevilla and Bolton are well-known clubs. And believe me Zenit won't be whipping boys too!

BTW a year ago (25 Nov 2004) I attended Zenit-Sevilla match... This year Zenit will play again with Sevilla at home! It will be November, 24!

So I'm thinking about visiting this match too!

And how many teams from each group will qualify to the next round? 2 or 3?

The top 3 qualify from each group for the next round, together with the 3rd placed teams (8) from the Champions League group stages. 32 teams in total.

Lokomotiv Moscow at home lost to Espanyol. The only goal was scored by Raul Tamudo on 54th min. from sharp angle.

I should mention that the ref Eriksson is a total crap. He made so many small mistakes... But anyway Loko deserved this loss. Russians played a bit worse than Spaniards.

Interesting results...

Viking 1 - 0 Monaco
Monaco must be not in the best mood after the game. I believe playing in Norway in autumn is very hard for any team.

Steaua Bucuresti 4 - 0 Lens
No idea what happened with rather good French team in Romania!

CSKA Moscow 1 - 2 Marseille
The title holder lost the 1st game. They missed 2 goals in the middle of the 1st half. In the 2nd half Vagner Love appeared on the pitch and scored nice goal assisted by Russian youngster Sergey Salugin. Also CSKA captain Sergey Ignashevitch missed a penalty...
I should mention that CSKA is having many injured players. Daniel Carvalho missed the game. Vagner Love and Yury Zhirkov have just recovered and entered the game only in the 2nd half...

Zenit St. Petersburg 2 - 1 Vitoria Guimaraes
Zenit was good in the 1st half. In the end of it Medeiros deserved a penalty and was sent off. But when the score was 2-0 and Andrey Arshavin was substituted Zenit stopped playing and missed a goal by Neca as a result.
At least one Russian team won in this round.

Besiktas 1 - 1 Bolton W.
This draw gives Zenit a chance...

Don't forget to mention AZ... they looked very good and totally overplayed Djnepr. The score should have been 0-5 but it ended in 1-2 for AZ
