Meh, the CL is really decreasing in quality imo. Ten teams in there are pretty much useless, and the only reason they get points is because the big teams who play them don't give a fudge about the game. And if I want to see two small teams duke it out for a place in the Europa League, then I'll just watch the Europa League thank you very much.

I believe that teams like Bursaspor or Zilina are going to show much more fighting spirit than many others who play in CL every year. I really enjoyed watching mighty teams not being able to win in Kazan last year or Inter fighting for life against Anorthosis two years ago. And I definitely prefer to watch Partizan or Cluj than Stuttgart or Celtic. New teams bring some fresh air in this dull tournament. Am I the only for who Europa League is much more interesting with its "exotic" teams than CL with constant Chelsea - Barca and Madrid - Lyon matches?

btw. the draw is tomorrow at 18:00.

completely agree with u Michal.. if the competition has only giants all the time, why even have a qualifying round.. let everyone enjoy, not only fans of these so called giants..

of course not today we are gonna destroy your Dinamo in Zagreb/Zágráb

Greg! if I want to see an all English cup final, then I'll watch the FA Cup final.

Anyway the EL becomes also the place of the likes Juventus, ATMA, and so on...

A Champions League should only be competed for by Champions. I miss the days of the old European (knockout) Cup.......

I suppose it helps if you have a team capable of regularly competing for the Champions League. Sorry if that sounds astonishingly arrogant, it isn't intended that way. That being the case, it's usually of great interest to me.

Conversely, I experience the aforementioned sentiments whenever United go out. My enthusiasm for last season's final was zilch. It was unbelievably boring, build up included.

On Rack's point about it only being for Champions, whilst I understand your nostalgic desire for the old format, the new football landscape makes it nigh on impossible. UEFA can't revert to those days, not after cultivating a culture that has looked increasingly like returning to bite the hand that fed it.

True that, still there is enough room and plenty of alternatives for a more nationaly balanced competition, from the "only the champions" to the "4 clubs from the big leagues".

I'm not even sure what viable alternatives there are. Seeing as they're essentially businesses, albeit ones not charged with the sole intention of producing profits, football clubs aren't unlike many corporations in how they monopolize their respective businesses.

Trying to abolish that is an unenviable task. I see the changes Platini has implemented, and I wish him all the best in his honourable endeavour, but he'll have a serious fight in any bid to introduce changes that could compromise their cash cow.

Well, pretty much every team from the first two pots (even some teams from pot 3), can't really get motivated to play a team like Bursaspor or Zilina. So you get a big team playing like crap and a little team trying all they can, but who still aren't good enough to really mean something. This is fun for the Europa League, but it's turning the group phase of the CL into a second Europa League. The Champions League only really starts in the KO phase.

Why would you prefer Partizan or Cluj in the CL? Seriously, I've seen Partizan and they don't stand a chance. Imo, teams like Basel and Anderlecht for example, should be the lowest quality teams in the CL. Yeah, Partizan knocked out Anderlecht, but they're still far from Anderlecht's potential. I'm not an Anderlecht fan at all, but the fact that a hopeless team like Partizan proceeds to the next round because the referee incorrectly cancelled Anderlecht's winning goal, yeah, that pisses me off. Anderlecht is a Belgian team and likes to play from the underdog position, but being the favorite is not their forte. Teams like Anderlecht and Basel are hopeless enough as it is, but they still have the off chance of causing an upset. Partizan on the other hand, does not.

And I like to watch Stuttgart... The only reason you don't is because you're Polish But I can relate, I don't like watching Ajax and PSV either

Real, Milan, Ajax and Auxerre is an awesome group
