Default Europa League 2011/2012

Do not believe anybody has started a thread yet.

Anyway, some very interesting results this evening most notably in Belgrade where Shamrock Rovers beat Partizan 2-1 (3-2). A very historic victory for a side from the League of Ireland. Congratulations to the side from Tallaght, Dublin.

That's mighty Partizan
Anyway Polish Legia Warsaw made a huge surprise too by eliminating Spartak. Legia drawn 2:2 at home and then have been already losing 0:2 in Moscow to turn the game and win 3:2 with a last minute goal. Historic day for Polish football - for the first time we'll have two sides in the EL group stage (Wisła is the second one). A small consolation after throwing CL spot by Wisła.

My home side Śląsk ended their first in 30 years adventure in European Cups by drawing 1:1 in Bucharest with Rapid (1:3 in Wrocław). Anyway IMO it was a good performance by them in Europe, I never expected them to eliminate a side like Dundee Utd. + Lokomotiv Sofia. So no cry in Wrocław, especially as Śląsk is getting stronger and stronger day by day and we expect them to come back to Europe in the next year

Quite a few surprises already. Sevilla, Celtic, Rangers, Partizan and Roma have all been eliminated. Sochaux getting destroyed at home is also very unexpected.

Legia's winning goal scorer is quite aptly named

Don't know if you guys quite understand how HUGE this is for Irish football. No Irish team has EVER made it into the Europa League group stages. The full squad has been assembled for just €600,000. Irish football is ravaged every year by club's in financial difficulty and promotions and relegations to and from the Premier Division are often the result of economic considerations rather than sporting achievement/merit. Many of these guys earn less than €1,000 per week. Some even have jobs to supplement their football income. Shamrock Rovers were homeless for 20 years until about 6 years ago, tramping around from ground to ground as tennants to other Dublin clubs. During that time they almost went out of business several times, except for the massive fundraising efforts of their dedicated supporters. What makes this special is that EVERY football fan of EVERY team in Ireland will rejoice about their victory. Everyone understands that if Rovers make €1m for the group stages, then a lot of that money will be spread around other clubs when Rovers look to buy their best players. A magnificent victory and well done boys. Bring on Spurs!

gdje ste, Vladan? at least Zvezda lost badly.

congrats Greg, for the lot of Belgium teams in EL, although Partizan's recent results give other tone to Genk's qualification.

congrats Rack!

I heard heavy riots in Pana-Maccabi (?) match, with active riot police in the stands.

Both Rangers and Celtic are out...

For how many hours, will Luis Enrique remain, as Roma's manager?

Edit: A nice detail, is that Totti, didn't even give the captain's "brassard" (is this a right word?) to another player

yes, Hari, he is irreplacable. He is the icon, who served the club "under" 15 coaches, and 5 presidents.
Finally, after his sub out Roma was got knocked out by a wonder-team from Slovakia.

I am quite happy anyway, they sold Mirko, and now they are impotent.

What a draw for Shamrock Rovers - with Spurs in the Group, they might just be able to fill the Aviva Stadium (50,000) instead of their own ground which holds just 12,000.

Group A: Tottenham, Rubin Kazan, PAOK, Shamrock Rovers

Group B: Copenhagen, Standard Liège, Hannover 96, FC Vorskla Poltava

Group C: PSV Eindhoven, Hapoel Tel-Aviv, Rapid Bucuresti, Legia Warsaw

Group D: Sporting Lisbon, Lazio, FC Zürich, FC Vaslui

Group E: Dynamo Kiev, Besiktas, Stoke City, Maccabi Tel-Aviv

Group F: PSG, Athletic Bilbao, FC Salzburg, Slovan Bratislava

Group G: AZ Alkmaar, Metalist Kharkiv, Austria Wien, Malmö

Group H: Braga, Club Brugge, Birmingham City, NK Maribor

Group I: Atletico Madrid, Udinese, Stade Rennes, FC Sion

Group J: Schalke, Steaua Bucuresti, Maccabi Haifa, AEK Larnaca

Group K: FC Twente, Fulham, Odense BK, Wisla Kraków

Group L: Anderlecht, AEK Athens, Lokomotiv Moscow, Sturm Graz

i dont believe that any player is irreplaceable, if the coach decides so.. otherwise, what is the liberty of a coach? anyway, im not worried abt all three of them, L.Enrique, Totti and Roma..

his liberty is to not sub out Totti

Mourinho has luck or force, that Raul and Guti left RMCF when he arrived...
