The general trend in the world of football is to add more and more games in the calendar. I think that at some moment this has to get reversed.

Funny how FIFA/UEFA want leagues to play less games and at the same time they keep introducing more and more international games.
24 teams qualifying, how many countries in Europe?
forget qualifiers just have all nations in 1 big tournament....idiots!!!

That's definitely my point of view...I like Platini, but his ideas are sometimes idiotic.

I'm a little undecided because if they increase the tournament to 24 teams then Scotland will probably qualify but if it ain't broke then don't fix it. It's all about money though and more teams means more fans, more advertising, more tickets to sell......The last time Scotland qualified for the euros was in 96 and even getting to any tournament these days will be special but I'd rather get there on merit and not because uefa increased the competition by 8 teams. I think we'll start making the finals soon anyway because we've been concentrating on youth development and a promising squad is currently being assembled.

Croc
You lot should have been in the finals this time round.
But sel destructed playing the 'smaller' sides.I reckon you would have been better than France!!

Donato
As long as it doesn't affect Depor
If he bought that in, I reckon no teams would qualify!!
PS I liked Hippykid a lot more Just cannot get used to your new name!

This tournament has had some good games with generally well matched teams, the more teams the more likelyhood that you will get rubbish games and teams that really don't deserve to be in the finals!!

You sure it was Platini and not the English FA that came up with the idea

i think that the only weak teams here are N.ireland and maybe Ireland

the key would be if the euro would be organized by two countries, at least one should be an european heavyweight (or at least upper middle class team), we had two teams this year that have no business being at the euro, Austria and Switzerland (maybe the swiss are a bit better but still WEAK)

Don't forget that if we have two hosts they must be neighbours. It's first thing. Another problem is that usually big football countries also are rich and have beautiful stadiums etc. so they don't need second country to help. Maybe Holland - Belgium are exception but I guess it's just because they're both small countries. Next EURO will be hosted by big but poor Poland and Ukraine, if we were as rich as for example Germany then we wouldn't need Ukraine, same for them.

I don't like the idea either. 16 teams is perfect. One of the reasons why I like the Euros over the World Cup is that it is more competitive and a harder tournament to win. I don't buy the idea that limiting the Euros to 16 puts small countries at a disadvantage; Croatia only has about 4.5 million people and Portugal about 10 million, yet these are two are top footballing countries. The idea really puts making more money off the tournament over the quality of play. Increasing the number of countries to 24 ruin the tournament.

I personally think 16 teams is plenty for the finals stage, afterall its a European competition, and not the world cup. Technically the competition really starts at the qualifying stages, so its the final 16 that actually make it to the finals. The only thing I would say though, is that with only 16 teams, the tournament seemed to go by so fast, unlike the world cup. Not sure if anyone else thought that? Changing the subject (sorry), I'm not to keen on the idea of two host nations though, and this means two spots for the hosts!

not 24 but maybe 20 team enough for the tournament.

4 groups has 5 teams and first 2 goes to quarters.. and 3 games should play in a day..

Only 2 out of 5 advancing - it's not very much, I guess not many would be satisfied.

On the other hand I have no idea how would it look like if 24 teams would play...(I mean advancing from the groups, how many groups, etc.)
