DEPORTIVO IN MAY

04 May 2017
Three matches to secure the permanence, Depor end the season facing two teams that are already playing for nothing, plus a Villarreal CF that dream of the Champions League.

Deportivo didn’t secure the permanence on April, but it neither complicated its life. Now, it will end the season in May searching for a victory that will do the job. A point would be enough in the 95% of the possible scenarios, but since a triple draw in points with Sporting Gijón and CD Leganés would cause the relegation, one more victory should be the target.

And the Galicians will have three chances to get that win. The first is the visit to RCD Espanyol to the Riazor. The Catalans were aspiring to play in Europe, but the dream ended after only adding one of the last nine points in dispute.

The last five liga games by Espanyol:

MATCHDAY 31 ESPANYOL 1 ALAVES 0
MATCHDAY 32 LEGANES 0 ESPANYOL 1
MATCHDAY 33 ESPANYOL 0 ATLETICO 1
MATCHDAY 34 SPORTING 1 ESPANYOL 1
MATCHDAY 35 ESPANYOL 0 BARCELONA 3

Without doubt, the toughest game in the month is the visit to Villarreal CF. The yellow submarine is one of the four most in-form teams in liga after winning five of the last six games and are still aspiring to the Champions League, though they will need a debacle of Sevilla CF for it. In any case, the Valencians will face the meeting with the Europa League spot at stake, so it will be a motivated rival.

The last five liga games by Villarreal:

MATCHDAY 31 VILLARREAL 3 ATHLETIC 1
MATCHDAY 32 ALAVES 2 VILLARREAL 1
MATCHDAY 33 VILLARREAL 2 LEGANES 1
MATCHDAY 34 ATLETICO 0 VILLARREAL 1
MATCHDAY 35 VILLARREAL 3 SPORTING 1

Deportivo end the season hosting UD Las Palmas at the Riazor. If Los Blanquiazules face in the week before one of the most in-form teams, now it’s the opposite, because the Canarians are going down after it was announced that coach Quique Setién is leaving. They have only added four of the last eighteen points in dispute allowing eighteen goals within the last six games, which is the worst mark for that period.

The last five games by Las Palmas:

MATCHDAY 31 LAS PALMAS 4 BETIS 1
MATCHDAY 32 ATHLETIC 5 LAS PALMAS 1
MATCHDAY 33 LAS PALMAS 1 ALAVES 1
MATCHDAY 34 LEGANES 3 LAS PALMAS 0
