West Bromwich Albion FC will be the rival for the Teresa Herrera 2017. Athletic Club will face Depor Ladies in the female version of the tournament.

Deportivo announced on Thursday that the rival for the 72th edition of the Teresa Herrera will be West Bromwich Albion FC. For the third straight year the tournament will be disputed n a single game and for the second straight time there will be a female version with Athletic Club facing Depo Ladies. The tournament will take place on Saturday, August 5.

West Brom is the first Premier League club that plays the Teresa Herrera since Newcastle United in 2010. It’s the second time with The Baggies taking part of the tournament. In 1979, they lost in semi-finals with Sporting Gijón (0-1) and later lost again with Hungarian club Budapest Honvéd (0-1)

Previously, five English clubs have taken part of the Teresa Herrera: Newcastle United (1960 & 2010), Stoke City (1975), Manchester United (1984), Everton (1987) and Liverpool (1988). West Brom ended at mid-table during last season and the next Premier League will be their 80th season at the elite.

This is the 8th friendly announced by Deportivo for the pre-season. With La Liga starting on August 19/20, it means that there’s room for at least one more friendly game and the intention is to face another rival from the elite. At the end of the season 2016/17, coach Pepe Mel said that the club was negotiating to play against FC Porto, but the club hasn’t confirmed yet this friendly match.
