It finally happened, Lucas Pérez returns to Deportivo in a loan season-long deal. There’s no buyout option over the player.

The long awaited return of Lucas Pérez to Deportivo finally took place on Thursday, one day before deadline day in Spain. All summer long the striker was pretended by several, clubs from SS Lazio to Newcastle United, and early on Thursday late offers coming from Levante UD and Sevilla CF were public, but all of them rejected by the player.

Arsenal FC seemed upset with Depor for the problems to sign the striker on last season, so now they did everything they could in order to dispatch Lucas to another club, but the Galician player always wanted to return home and rejected every offer that was presented.

The Gunners realized that it was a lost case and allowed his return to Depor, but it’s only a loan deal lasting for the rest of the 2017/18 campaign and there’s no buyout option, so if Deportivo want the player on next summer, then they will have to negotiate again.

Lucas' agent, Rodriguez Lobelle, was very clear about the intentions of Lucas when he addressed Sevillan paper Estadio Deportivo "Truly we have talked to Sevilla, but we have been fighting alongside Deportivo for two months and we aren't going to leave them now. We aren't going to abandon Depor.”

Lucas was transferred on last year to Arsenal FC, precisely on August 31. It was the third most expensive transfer in the history of Depor with the Gunners paying more than €21 million as they assumed the commission for the agent and also the formation rights to the clubs in which Lucas performed when he was a U-23 player (€1 million).

The striker arrived loaned three seasons ago and became an idol at the club after 68 league games with the Blanquiazul outfit, he scored 25 goals and provided 13 assists, number only seen in the Champions League years with Makaay or Diego Tristán on board.

This is the ninth signing during the summer window, five are loan deals: Lucas, Bakkali, Carles Gil, Fede Valverde and Adrián López, one was a zero-cost transfer (Fede Cartabia) and three were final transfers with Depor paying around €7.5 million:  Schär, Guilherme and Gerard Valentín.
