Meritorious victory of a Fabril that’s the new leader in Segunda B. The lads could have even clinched a bigger score facing one of the strongest rivals in the group.

Coach Cristobal Parralo had the casualty of Jardel and Quique Fornos for injury reasons. Luis Fernández and Bicho were back, also Álex Cobo and Edu Expósito, the latter was in the roster for the first team’s match against Getafe CF. Panamanian Ismael Díaz was in the roster and made the trip to Ponferrada, but was left out of the match.

The lineup was a 4-2-3-1 with Álex Cobo covering the goal, Blas Alonso performed at the right-back position, Steve One and Raúl González were the centre-backs, Diego Caballo performed at the left. Carlos López and Edu Expósito were the centre midfielders, Óscar García attacked from the left wing. Jorge Romay was the playmaker, Borja Galán performed on the right flank and Uxio Dapena was the centre forward.

The rival was SD Ponferradina, one of the favourite sides to qualify for the promotion playoffs and that will face Villarreal CF in the last-32 round of Copa Del Rey. Coach Carlos Terrazas left Brazilian attacker Yuri de Souza on the bench (the only survivor from the team that trashed Depor 0-3 at the Riazor in 2014), so the references in attack were Pablo Pallarés and Iago Díaz.

Another big game for Fabril, the team never felt afraid and attacked from minute 1, it scored an early goal and could have netted more, only the narrow advantage and a couple of chances for the locals left the result open until the end.

The game started with the goal for Fabril, Óscar took a lateral free-kick, wisely he saw Edu Expósito arriving to the edge of the area and sent the ball into his path, then the midfield scored with a strong shot past local goalie Dinu Bogdan.

The goal motivated Fabril as the lads were looking more dangerous than SD Ponferradina, the locals were having problems to combine and the visiting defence didn’t face any problem, while there were a couple of runs by Óscar and Uxío that were wasted for failing in the last pass.

Ponferradina’s first opportunity came at minute 24, it was a shot from Jorge García that was blocked by Álex Cobo. Fabril were still looing dangerous, like the cross from Borja Galán that no one found at the far post (31’), or the blocked shot of Uxío when he was inside the area (32’).

The final stretch in the first part was entertaining, because both sides were trying to attack, and Fabril were looking more dangerous. The second goal could have arrived during the stoppage time of the first half, but Borja Galán missed the target with his crossed shot from close range.

Ponferradina SD started the second half trying to push, at minute 48, Menudo had a chance in a direct free-kick attempt, but he sent the ball over the crossbar. But little by little Fabril started to claim control of the actions and first Dinu Bogdan. saved a triple chance, then Óscar should have scored the second, but his crossed shot from close range hit the crossbar (55’).

The public started to whistle and coach Carlos Terrazas had to make a double change, Yuri de Souza was one of the “revulsive” options that entered the pitch, but it didn’t work. Because Fabril still was the side closer to score, Borja Galán had a new chance, this time in a direct free-kick attempt that was cleared by Dinu Bogdan (59’).

The narrow score invited Ponferradina to push for the equalizer, thus Yuri had a great chance in an attempt that was saved by Álex Cobo (63’). The keeper appeared again at minute 71, this time deflecting the shot by Andy Rodriguez (71’).

Parralo tried to protect the result and made the three substitutions within the last fifteen minutes, all of them defensive moves. Gaizka Martínez replaced Borja Galán, then Martín Bengoa did the same with Edu Expósito and Lucas Viña claimed the spot of Romay. The team ended the game with ten men after Blas Alonso was sent off with two yellow cards (90+3’).
