PEPE MEL LEAVES DEPORTIVO

25 Oct 2017
The board of directors fired Pepe Mel after the defeat against Girona FC. The Madrilenian only won six games at Primera División.

Early on Tuesday it was reported that the board of directors was studying the situation of Pepe Mel, this after the poor impression left by the team in the 1-2 defeat hosting Girona FC. And two hours before the training session was about to start, the club informed that Mel had been sacked.

Mel arrived at the middle of last season as the replacement for Gaizka Garitano, after a positive start that included a 2-1 victory against FC Barcelona, the team continued giving a negative impression and, despite clinching the permanence, the fans weren’t too convinced.

But president Tino Fernández pushed and Mel continued ahead this season, recently sporting advisor Fernando Vidal resigned, apparently after the president continued supporting the coach despite the poor start in liga.

Pepe Mel was close to be axed three weeks ago, but his team defeated Getafe CF (2-1), but later the team only added one of the next six points in dispute and the decision was made. The Madrilenian is the fifth coach sacked since the arrival of Tino Fernández. He coached Depor in 24 Primera meetings with a record of 6 victories, 7 draws and 11 defeats (27 goals scored, 40 goals allowed).
