PREVIEW: DEPORTIVO – LAS PALMAS (COPA)

26 Oct 2017
Cristóbal Parralo debuts in Copa and presents a team with rotations. The rival also wants to forget the pain in la liga.

Referee: Miguel Mateu Lahoz
Kick-off: 20h30 CET (Riazor)

STATISTICS: DEPRESSION
Both Deportivo and UD Las Palmas arrive to the competition in the middle of a crisis in which the coaches have been on the spotlight. Deportivo only added one of the last six points disputed in liga and the fans were tired of Pepe Mel, who was finally sacked on Tuesday.

Also delicate is the moment for coach Pako Ayestarán at UD Las Palmas. He replaced Manolo Márquez, who resigned after a 0-2 loss hosting CD Leganés. Since then the team has lost three games and, despite his short period at the club, he also seems at the edge of destitution. The Canarians have lost five straight liga games and represent the worst defence in the competition after allowing 22 goals.

This is the second meeting for Deportivo facing UD Las Palmas playing for Copa Del Rey; previously both teams collided during the first round of the season 1968/69. Depor advanced to the next round after winning both legs with the same score (2-1).

DEPORTIVO: DEBUT FOR PARRALO
Coach Cristóbal Parralo debuts in similar circumstances compared to Pepe Mel. The Madrilenian arrived just days before Depor had to face three games in a frame of six days, now the new coach faces his first two games in a frame of only five days, both facing UD Las Palmas.

It’s hard to predict what Parralo will do in this game after only two training sessions with the team (there will be a third on Thursday’s morning), apparently he will make rotations taking in mind the 4-2-3-1 team tested in the second session. Edu Expósito is set to start, the other ten possible starters were out or on the bench for the past game with Girona FC.

Team news: Adrián López sustained a shoulder injury during the game with Girona FC and will be out for a while. The other two men at the injury room are Rubén Martínez and Carles Gil. New coach Cristóbal Parralo will release the roster for the game until Thursday.

Man to watch: Striker Florin Andone. The arrival of Lucas took away the starting role that the Romanian had on last season, now he wants to recover it and a good way to impress the new coach is to seize the opportunity that he will have in Copa Del Rey.

Picked players: The list will be released until Thursday

Predicted lineup: (4-2-3-1) Pantilimon – Gerard Valentín, Arribas, Schär, Navarro - Mosquera, Edu Expósito – Bruno Gama, Bakkali, Borja Valle - Andone

LAS PALMAS: UNUSUAL WEEK
There was tension in the Canary Islands even before the club changed the coach and suffered five straight defeats, president Miguel Ángel Ramírez didn’t have a good relation with the fans and now the situation is worse as the team is in the middle of a downward spiral.

At least coach Pako Ayestarán and his players have been out for a week to skip the mess. The team played on Sunday at Villarreal CF and stayed in Valencia preparing the debut in Copa. They traveled to A Coruña on Tuesday and will return to the island until Friday. For this reason, the coach picked all the available players for the long trip. It’s expected to witness rotations as the team will reserve normal starters for la liga.

Team news: Ayestarán picked 24 players for the games against Villarreal CF and Deportivo. The coach already lost a man as striker Oussama Tannane picked an adductor injury in Sunday’s liga game. The other casualty for the game is playmaker Alen Halilović, who on Tuesday was operated from an ankle injury.

Man to watch: Striker Loïc Rémy. The Frenchman is one of the few good news on the season, he arrived as a late addition to the team and managed to score in the three liga meetings in which he entered as a substitute (Málaga, Athletic & Celta). He was a starter for the first time against Villarreal CF, though it ended in a big loss (0-4).

Picked players: (23) Raúl Lizoain, Chichizola (goalkeepers); David Simón, Pablo Lemos, David García, Michel, Borja Herrera, Aythami, Bigas, Ximo Navarro, Dani Castellano (defenders); Vicente Gómez, Samper, Momo, Hernán, Javi Castellano, Jonathan Viera, Aquilani (midfielders); Remy, Calleri, Toledo, Vitolo & Tana (attackers).

Predicted lineup: (4-3-3) Raúl Lizoain - Simón, Aythami, David García, Herrera - Javi Castellano, Hernán Santana, Tana - Toledo, Rémy, Momo.
