SCHAR: “WE HAVE PROGRESSED IN THE LAST GAMES”

16 Nov 2017
Defender Fabian Schär is convinced that Deportivo are improving and that team has enough quality to be along the first ten places.

Fabian Schär addressed the media on Wednesday, the centre-back returned to Abegondo after qualifying with Switzerland and was commenting the tie with Northern Ireland, “Off course I’m happy, it was a big dream of the whole team to go to Russia, and we are really happy about it. I think that, in Belfast, we were the better team. We deserved the 1-0 and in Basilea it was a really tough game. We had a difficult pitch as well. There was a lot of rain and water on the pitch. In the end the only thing that matters is that we are going to Russia.”

About his physical state after playing both legs as a starter, he commented that, “At the moment I am a little tired. Today it was the first training on the week, but we have time until Sunday. We have some days, so I will be ready for this game. I have good feelings after the qualification, so I am looking forward for the next games.”

Then the Swiss defender talked of Málaga CF and the difficulty of the meeting, “It is a very difficult game. I think both teams want to get the points, so it’s going to be a tough game, but I think that we have good chances to get some points if we play as in the last games.”

“I think all of the teams need the points, so everybody will be motivated for the game. But I think we have progressed within the last games, we train good and hard and I’m positive. If we play like against Atlético Madrid then I think we have good chances.” He added.

Asked about the differences that he noticed between Pepe Mel and Cristóbal Parralo, the comment was,
“Some things are always different when a new coach is coming. I think we train very good during the weeks, and in the last game we were good. I think that in a tactical aspect we progressed a lot. He wants us to defend and attack as a team. The coach found the right words and I’m looking forward for the next game.”

Finally, Schär shares the opinion of Bakkali about Deportivo having enough quality to be among the first ten places, “I think we have the quality for that. In the last games we showed that, maybe, we aren’t in the right place and we want to be there. But at the moment we aren’t there, so we need to work and get the points. It isn’t easy, but we have a lot of quality and the potential to go up.”
