THINKING OF RAYO MAJADAHONDA

01 Dec 2018
Natxo González loses Domingos Duarte and David Simón, but recovers Álex Bergantiños. The rival is having several doubts due to injuries.

Deportivo are finally lying among the first two places, the victory over CA Osasuna put the team in direct promotion spots for the first time on the season. Now, the Galician team visits Rayo Majadahonda (Cerro del Espino, Sunday, 12h00 CET).

Coach Natxo González will continue to have problems, because he is losing centre-back Domingos Duarte and right-back David Simón, two of the three players that have taken part of all the games on the season (Dani Giménez is the other one)

The duo saw the fifth yellow card of the season against CA Osasuna, so they are suspended for the match. There are other two men out of the clash: playmaker Pedro Sánchez and left-back Sebastián Dubarbier (both thigh). They are already completing some exercises alongside the group, but won’t receive the okay from doctors on this week.

The good news is that Álex Bergantiños is back in contention, the midfielder skipped the game with CA Osasuna due to a back problem, but he is already recovered and should be available. Fede Cartabia trained at the gym during Thursday, but it was a precaution and the Argentine joined the group one day later.

At Rayo Majadahonda, the main novelty is that the game is going to be played at Cerro Del Espino. Until this point their home games were played at the Wanda stadium, but Atlético Madrid are worried for the state of the pitch and won’t longer offer the stadium.

According to Fabril’s players (they played there on Sunday visiting Atlético B), the state of the pitch at Cerro Del Espnio is good, the problem is the stands, there’s no roof and therefore the spectator won’t feel comfortable, especially taking in mind the game will be played at noon. There is a renewal project taking place at the stadium and it will be ready until January. Still, La Liga authorized it to host a Segunda match.

About the state of the team, coach Antonio Iriondo has been dealing with a long list of casualties in recent days. Centre midfielder Óscar Valentín is out with a hamstring problem. Then, playmaker Enzo Zidane and centre-back Rafa López were early replaced in the last game at CD Tenerife due to knocks. The latter is out of the game, while the first is doubtful.

There are other three men doubtful for the game: centre midfielder Luso Delgado and centre-back Héctor Verdés (both muscle) plus centre-back David Andújar, the latter has only played two games this season due to a wrist fracture and currently has a groin problem.
