New defeat for a Fabril that paid a high price for not defending the sides properly, the lads were leading the major part of the game, but ended losing before the pressure from a rival with more quality.

Coach Sergio Pellicer was recovering midfielder Carlos López. The only casualty was Bicho, who was injured. Fornos was on the bench and Gaizka Martínez played as a centre-back. Laracha’s Iago Novo was again on the bench after his recent performances.

The draw was a 4-2-3-1 figure. Pedro López was the starting goalie, Blas Alonso covered the right side in defence, Lucas Viña played on the left, Steve One joined Gaizka Martínez at the centre of the defence. Carlos López and Iago Gandoy were the centre midfielders, Juan Jesús Argüez ‘Juanje’ attacked from the left wing, Víctor García did it from the right, Joni Montiel was the playmaker and Uxío Dapena was the centre forward.

The rival was Cultural y Deportiva Leonesa, team fighting for the promotion spots, but with only one victory within the last six matchdays. The coach is Víctor Cea, who was trusting in Aridane Santana for the goals, the former Fabril attacker is one of the top-scorers at the team with five goals on his tally.

It cannot be said that it was a bad gam from Fabril, the rival was superior and the lads led in the score for more than an hour, but the poor cover of the sides cost the points. The game started with Fabril pushing in attack, the first clear opportunity came at minute 3; a combination between Juanje and Montiel ended with the latter firing a curved shot deflected by visiting goalie Jorge Palatsí.

And soon Fabril found the first goal in the game, it was a quick play started by Iago Gandoy, then Montiel drilled the ball into the area and Uxío Dapena was there to cross the keeper with a small deflection into the far post.

The visiting side didn’t react and Fabril were close to score the second, Víctor García sent a cross from the right and Uxío headed on target, a defender made a deflection and later the striker failed to push the ball in from the box (15’). Iago Gandoy was the best player in this half for Fabril, his passes were marking the way in the transition defence-attack.

Cultural’s first chance in the game was a cross from the left that Aridane headed over the crossbar (20’). Fabril replied with a counterattack in which One sent a long throw and a defender cleared the danger when Uxio and Montiel were combining inside the area (22’).

Then Cultural started to gain control of the game and the ball possession, though Fabril were looking dangerous in the counterattack. Aridane had a new chance at minute 27, again a cross from Hugo Martínez on the left and again the ex-Fabril headed the ball out. Cultural pushed within the last fifteen minutes, but their only clear chance in this frame was a crossed and low shot of Viti that went out (37’).

The final part started with Sergio Marcos and Josep Señé entering the field for Cultural Leonesa, the visiting side had the initiative and their first chance was a cross from the left that Señe missed to control properly before Pedro López (47’).

But Fabril were also having opportunities, at minute 51, Gaizka Martínez headed the ball out in a corner-kick action. Iago Gandoy and Montiel were key for this as the duo was leading the output of the ball.

At minute 54, Pedro López made a double save, first against the shot of Señe and later the loose ball was found by Hugo Rodríguez and the keeper deflected the ball to corner-kick. The first substitution at Fabril was the entry of Pedro Correia for Uxío.

Then Fabril tried to react and had some good chances, at minute 61, Carlos López found the ball at the edge of the area and his strong shot hit the post, then Víctor García couldn’t score after collecting the rebound, because a defended blocked his attempt.  Five minutes later a lateral free-kick from Montiel was cleared by Palatsi.

And when Fabril was suffering the less, Cultural scored the equalizer. Hugo Rodriguez collected the ball on the left and his perfect cross was met by Aridane, who just headed the ball in from the box. Fabril failed the entire game to control the game on the sides from Cultural, the side defenders were releasing countless crosses without any opposition and the goals came from there.

The second substitution at Fabril was the entry of Fornos for Gaizka Martínez, followed by Iago Novo replacing Juanje. The final minutes were a real suffering for Fabril, substitute Eneko Capilla hit the far post after connecting a cross from the right (88’), two minutes later Viti unexplainedly failed after collecting a great pass from Señe, but instead of scoring he sent the ball out.

And the winning goal from Cultural came in the added time, Pedro López failed to connect a cross from the left in a corner-kick action and José Luis García ‘Zelu’ was alone enough at the far post to score the goal.

This is the tenth defeat for Fabril in seventeen matchdays, it was painful as the team was leading since minute 13 and even had a clear chance to score the second, but the lack of strength on the sides cost the game facing one of the big candidates for the promotion. Fabril will remain in relegation until next year and will close 2018 visiting CDA Navalcarnero (Saturday, 16h30 CET).
