Bad weekend for the leaders as they dropped points, including Málaga CF, side that suffered a huge loss at home. CA Osasuna was the big winner during the matchday.

The first matchday in 2019 turned to be negative for the leaders at Segunda División. The two top-teams, Granada CF and Albacete Balompié, shared a point (1-1) and the chasers didn’t take advantage of it. Deportivo could only get a point after a goalless draw with CD Lugo.

But it was enough to jump into the third position as Málaga CF were trashed a home by CF Reus (0-3). That will be one of the biggest upsets on the season, because the Catalans are in big financial problems and had to drop players. They only had twelve men available and filled the gaps with academy lads and might not been cleared to play for the second round.
Meanwhile, AD Alcorcón remain failing. This time they were trashed by Extremadura UD (3-0), now the Madrilenians have only added a point within the last five games. Even clubs that were in a good rally lost. Sporting Gijón lost for the first time with José Alberto López as coach after a 1-2 defeat against Real Zaragoza, while Cádiz CF scored first, but ended losing at CA Osasuna (2-1).

Precisely, CA Osasuna is the big winner of the weekend. They jump into the fifth position and are only four points below leaders Granada CF. The Navarrans have added 13 of the last 15 points in dispute and are the second most in-form team in the league (Albacete is the best with 14 points). Almería UD also remain in a sweet moment, the Andalusians have now spent seven matches without defeats after a 2-0 win over RCD Mallorca, they are now six points below the promotion zone.

5 Osasuna 35 26 20
6 Alcorcón 34 22 15
7 Cádiz 32 28 17
8 Mallorca 30 25 19

Gimnástic Tarragona remain as the bottom club despite the 1-0 win over direct rival Córdoba CF, while Elche CF cut its positive rally of four games without defeats after losing at CD Tenerife (2-1). The result allows the Canarian to be two points above the drop zone. Rayo Majadahonda also stay out of relegation with the goalless draw against UD Las Palmas, while Real Oviedo stay in safe waters with their 2-3 win at CD Numancia.

The situation at the bottom of the standings:

There are very interesting games among the leaders in the matchday that closes the first round. Leaders Granada CF visit seventh spot Cádiz CF, while runners-up Albacete Balompié host tricky Sporting Gijón. Deportivo have a tough visit at RCD Mallorca, while Málaga CF will try to bounce back visiting resurrected Real Zaragoza.

The matchday is completed with other seven games: UD Las Palmas Vs. CA Osasuna; CF Reus Vs. CD Numancia; Real Oviedo Vs. CD Tenerife; Córdoba CF Vs. Rayo Majadahonda; AD Alcorcón Vs. Almería UD; CD Lugo Vs. Extremadura UD & Elche CF Vs. Gimnástic Tarragona.
