Midfielder JESÚS MUÑOZ played only 16 minutes in the shirt of Deportivo, an strange case in Depor's history.

He was signed in 2002 from Atlético de Madrid as part of the Emerson transfer to the capital. The purpose of his signing was to get midfielder 'Toro' Acuña from Real Zaragoza as the relegated club were seriously interested in having Jesús Muñoz as his follow-up.

That's how Jesús Muñoz ended up playing at Real Zaragoza but still is property of Deportivo. Zaragoza had him on loan for two seasons but they didn't want to keep him as he only played 5 Liga matches in his second year and none in his first season. It's a strange contradiction to the 35 matches he played at the age of 19 for Albacete in the Primera División.

With the economic problems surrounding Depor and the other clubs in la liga, everybody was careful about the transfer of players. President Lendoiro faced several troubles in order to find a destination to him. At the end, he had to stay in the first squad and new coach Joquín Caparrós decided to give him a chance, although that he was never in his plans. The opportunity arrived during the match against Osasuna at Reyno de Navarra. Caparrós needed to hold on to the result and Muñoz was selected for the job. His contract expired in June, 2006.
