Deportivo 1999–00 Season
The season that defined Deportivo de La Coruña’s entire history. Under Javier Irureta, with a squad of extraordinary collective quality, Deportivo won their first — and still only — La Liga championship. 69 points from 38 matches; 21 wins, 6 draws, 11 defeats; 60 goals scored, 41 conceded.
The title was clinched on the final day, finishing a single point ahead of Barcelona. For a city of 240,000 people on the Atlantic coast of Galicia, the achievement was almost surreal. The streets of A Coruña celebrated with an intensity that had never been seen before and has not been matched since.
This was the crowning moment of the Super Dépor era — proof that with the right management, the right squad, and the right collective spirit, a provincial club could still break the dominance of Real Madrid and Barcelona. Deportivo’s 1999–2000 title remains one of the most romantic achievements in La Liga history.
